Indeed Bruce! As just one example, it is not at all clear whether a “weaker” model of ICANN
accountability (i.e. something failed to provide the community with a statutory right to remove
some/all of the Board members) would have actually passed the level of scrutiny that the IANA
stewardship transition received.

The enormous effort by the CCWG on Accountability should be recognized as instrumental
to the IANA stewardship transition success (even if the community never needs to exercise
some of the mechanisms that were the result!)
