Re: [CCWG-ACCT] Fwd: [Wp4] [] Variety of formulation for Human Rights bylaw that were made. - corrected
Leon There was a dialogue on this list on 12-13 August, involving Nigel, Becky, Martin, Eberhard, Greg, Avri and myself, pointing out the difficulties the Guiding Principles present for certain aspects of ICANN's commitments and work. Putting forward the wording below appears to just ignore that dialogue. I cannot support wording that says "support without reservation for the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights" I could support wording that says '"Hereby affirms its intent to develop by-laws and policy, drawing where appropriate on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, to give effect to human rights within its work, as defined by the mission of the Corporation." I tend to support the Twoney view as stated.. I do not particularly like the ' without reservation' as that locks us into a UN mandated view of what the internet is. RD On Aug 25, 2015 12:27 PM, "Paul Twomey" <paul.twomey@argopacific.com> wrote:

Dear Paul, Thanks for highlighting the discussion carried between you and others in the HR subgroup. As we said in our call earlier, this is just a starting point to fuel discussion. We will hopefully reach a common wording through our discussions in the HR subgroup calls to be held later this week and the following two weeks. I too agree that this first approach might need some adjustments but I also believe that we will find a way forward soon. Best regards, León
