ICANN77 Recap
17 July 2023
|
|
By Sally Costerton, Interim President
and CEO
Thank you to everyone who helped make the ICANN77 Policy Forum a success. More than 1,100 people attended in person in Washington, D.C., and another 630 joined online.
This level of in-person participation is similar to that of ICANN65 in 2019, the last in-person Policy Forum before the COVID-19 pandemic halted travel. At the same time, it is clear that hybrid meetings are the new norm, with the remote attendees participating as seamlessly as in-person attendees. I'd like to thank everyone who used the Zoom platform during the meeting; this ensures that community members across the globe can meaningfully participate in ICANN Public Meetings.
ICANN77 participants represented 108 countries and territories. More detailed statistics will be available in the forthcoming ICANN77 By the Numbers Report. If you missed anything during ICANN77, visit the meeting website for session recordings and transcripts.

President and CEO Search Enters Next Phase
|
By Chris Chapman, Chair of ICANN Board CEO Search Committee
After gathering input from right across the ICANN community, the ICANN Board has finalized the Position Description for the next President and CEO of ICANN. The Board shared the draft position description during ICANN77, and the latest version is available on the Search Committee webpage.
I'd like to once again thank everyone who contributed to the first phase of the search effort by participating in any one of the 15 Board Listening Sessions and providing really valuable input on what ICANN needs in its next leader. Thank you also to those who attended the Board's session at ICANN77 and shared your thoughts on the position description and search process.
With this milestone reached, we have now entered Phase 2 of the search process. The Board has issued a Request for Proposals for executive recruiting agencies. For more information on the search process and the expected timeline, read my blog.

2023 IDS to be Held in Da Nang, Vietnam
|
This year, ICANN will invite speakers to present on the integration and security of the Domain Name System (DNS) with emerging technologies, exploring the challenges and opportunities that this integration presents. The symposium invites researchers, developers, and operators to present on subjects including, but not limited to, blockchain, Internet of Things, and novel uses of the DNS, such as IP-to-location translation and blocklists.
IDS will be held immediately after "A Day of DNS Abuse Discussions" and before another important event, the two-day OARC 41 workshop organized by the DNS Operations Analysis and Research Center (DNS-OARC). ICANN looks forward to participating in these events.
