Hello everyone, greetings from Accra, Ghana.

 

I am Raymond Selorm Mamattah, a member of the ISOC Ghana chapter, seeking your support as the AfRALO delegate to the NomCom.  In this my statement of interest, I will make it brief to answer the direct Criteria required as indicated in the Call for Nominations for this role.

 

I am a technology enthusiast with the following qualifications - MA Adult Learning and Global Change from Linkoping University, Sweden; MSc Information Security from Lulea University of Technology, Sweden and BBA Human Resource Management.  I work as an Assistant Administrative Manager, among which my roles cuts across recruitments and selections.

 

I am very familiar with ICANN and have played active roles as a member of the following working groups:

 

a.       NomCom Review Implementation Working Group.

b.      ATLAS III Programme Working Group

c.       ATLAS III Capacity Building Sub-Group

 

I must indicate that having being a member of the NomCom Review Implementation Working Group has given me more understanding of what goes on in the NomCom.

 

One of the major requirements as a delegate to NomCom as indicated in the selection criteria is the “ability to judge people, such as when interviewing and hiring”.   I must emphasis that I have this ability to the maximum since interviewing and hiring is a part of my routine day job.  In this regards, not only do I have practical exposures in hiring and interviewing, but as mentioned earlier, I also have a degree in Human Resource Management.  Indeed, with this degree as an added advantage, I have both the practical experience and educational qualifications it takes to perform this role very well without any doubt.

 

Coming from Ghana, where English is our official language, I am very comfortable with speaking and writing English fluently.  Furthermore, as a technology enthusiast and having engaged in several roles where google powered documents were used, I am a very comfortable user of google docs and many others. I am also very familiar with social media applications and I use them on daily basis.

 

I am ever willing to devote my time to meet tight deadlines and to work well for this role. Furthermore, having worked in several groups with people from all over the world, both physically and virtually, I have gained the competence and the diplomacy it takes to work well with high profiled people.  I am proud to say that I personally reached out to my other two contenders for this role just to have a chat with them in order to familiarize myself with them, and also to let them know that we are competing for this role in the joint interest of all of AfRALO, and I wished them well. Certainly, this is what diplomacy is all about, as required for this role.

 

I have all it takes to be the AfRALO delegate to NomCom, and hoping to be given the chance.

Je suis un passionné de technologie avec les qualifications suivantes-MA adulte Learning et global change de l’Université Linkoping, Suède; MSc Information Security de l’Université de technologie de Lulea, en Suède et de la gestion des ressources humaines de BBA.  Je travaille en tant que directeur administratif adjoint, parmi lesquels mes rôles coupent les recrutements et les sélections.

Je connais très bien l’ICANN et j’ai joué un rôle actif en tant que membre des groupes de travail suivants:

a. groupe de travail de l’examen de la mise en œuvre du NomCom.

b. groupe de travail du programme ATLAS III

c. sous-groupe de renforcement des capacités de l’ATLAS III

Je dois indiquer que le fait d’être membre du groupe de travail de l’examen de la mise en œuvre du NomCom m’a donné plus de compréhension de ce qui se passe dans le NomCom.

L’une des principales exigences en tant que délégué de NomCom, comme indiqué dans les critères de sélection, est la «capacité de juger les gens, comme lors de l’entrevue et de l’embauche».   Je dois insister sur le fait que j’ai cette capacité au maximum depuis l’entrevue et l’embauche est une partie de mon travail de routine jour.  À cet égard, non seulement j’ai des expositions pratiques dans l’embauche et l’entrevue, mais comme mentionné précédemment, j’ai aussi un diplôme en gestion des ressources humaines.  En effet, avec ce degré comme un avantage supplémentaire, j’ai à la fois l’expérience pratique et les qualifications éducatives qu’il faut pour jouer ce rôle très bien sans aucun doute.

En venant du Ghana, où l’anglais est notre langue officielle, je suis très à l’aise avec parler et écrire couramment l’anglais.  En outre, en tant que passionné de technologie et ayant engagé dans plusieurs rôles où Google Powered documents ont été utilisés, je suis un utilisateur très confortable de Google docs et beaucoup d’autres. Je suis également très familier avec les applications de médias sociaux et je les utilise sur une base quotidienne.

Je suis toujours disposé à consacrer mon temps à respecter des échéances serrées et à bien travailler pour ce rôle. En outre, ayant travaillé dans plusieurs groupes avec des gens du monde entier, physiquement et virtuellement, j’ai acquis la compétence et la diplomatie qu’il faut pour bien travailler avec les personnes à haut profil.  Je suis fière de dire que j’ai personnellement contacté mes deux autres prétendants pour ce rôle juste pour avoir une conversation avec eux afin de me familiariser avec eux, et aussi pour leur faire savoir que nous sommes en concurrence pour ce rôle dans l’intérêt commun de tous AfRALO , et je les souhaitais bien. Certes, c’est ce que la diplomatie est tout au sujet, comme exigé pour ce rôle.

J’ai tout ce qu’il faut pour être le délégué AfRALO à NomCom, et dans l’espoir d’être donné la chance.

On behalf of Maureen Hilyard, Chair of the ALAC, we would like to announce that the 2019 call for nominations is now open for positions to be filled as ALAC Members, RALO Leaders and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom for the AFRALO, APRALO and EURALO electorates.

 

Following its own bylaws, NARALO opened its call for nominations nearly two weeks ago; LACRALO will hold its call for nominations on 3 May until 10 May.


Positions Open:
 
Please refer to the 2019 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments Workspace for a comprehensive list of all available positions and whether current holders of the positions are eligible for re-selection. 
 
Terms:

·         ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2021 AGM.

·         RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2019 AGM.

·         ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2019 AGM and ending at the close of the 2020 AGM and may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under the ICANN Bylaws. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC. The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message.

 

Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:

  • 29 April 2019 -  Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.
  • 29 April – 10 May 2019 - Nomination period. 
  • 17 May 2019 - Deadline for nomination acceptances. 
  • 20 May – 22 May  2019- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs.
  • 23 May – 30 May 2019 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline).
  • 2019 AGM [ICANN 66] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2019 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 7 November 2019.

 

Process for Nominations: 
 All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff.  All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace).


Nominations, including self-nominations must be made directly to their RALO’s mailing list, as well as posted to the 2019 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments Workspace or by sending a note to At-Large staff. 
 

Criteria for NomCom Delegates:
The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria.

 

·         Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO).

·         Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring).

·         Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking).

·         Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media.

·         Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). Will involve travel to up to 4 meetings.

·         Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
