community.
I am pleased to share with you an important update from the
Chair of the 2025 ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom), Amir Qayyum, published
on the ICANN blog on 12 May 2025. You can access the full blog post here.
Key Highlights:
- The
2025 NomCom received 106 completed applications for the
ICANN and Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) leadership positions.
- 37%
of the applicants are from Africa, showing strong representation and
interest from our region.
- The
NomCom is currently in the assessment phase, evaluating
candidates for the 10 open leadership positions, which include:
- 3
members of the ICANN Board of Directors
- 1
member of the PTI Board
- 3
regional ALAC representatives (including one from Africa)
- 1
member of the ccNSO Council
- 2
members of the GNSO Council
Current Status and Next Steps:
- A first
intersessional meeting was held from 24–26 April 2025 to review
applications and identify a preliminary short list.
- Deep
dive groups have been formed to conduct virtual interviews and
assessments of shortlisted candidates.
- A second
intersessional meeting will take place in May 2025 to finalize
the list of candidates.
- Face-to-face
interviews for ICANN and PTI Board candidates will be held during ICANN83,
where final selections will be confirmed.
- The
final announcements are expected in late August or early September
2025.
This is a significant moment for ICANN's multistakeholder
model, and we are encouraged by the strong African participation.
