Colleagues,

There is the letter in the rules of procedure and the spirit in the rules of procedure. Hadia may have been a nominee of the nomcom but she has represented and contributed to Internet developement in the Africa Region very well through ALAC,AFRALO and DNS EC. She has also consistently reported back to AFRALO the work she has been doing on EPDP. The issue of individual members is still fairly new, has been debated extensively and i think Abdulkarim was our first Individual member If my memory is right. Despite the debates we had individual members who did nit have an ALS but wanted to contribute to AFRALO have proved beneficial to the RALO by contributing to various working groups. I therefore request colleagues feeling disenfrachised to wave the olive branch as agreed during the call since the letters in the rules of procedure can be prone to ambiguity but this can be resolved as we move along together.

Regards

To be clear, the NomCom Delegates do not represent a RALO, At-Large or the ALAC on the NomCom. Being a "representative" (or "rep" for short) implies being an agent for the group it represents and has a requirement to transfer information, typically in both directions. That is not the case with a NomCom delegate who is presumably appointed for his/her skills, knowledge, ability and ethos, and once appointed acts purely on their own.

Being a formal member of a RALO may be a desirable quality which a RALO looks for in the person or persons that it recommends to the ALAC, but it is not a requirement for either ALAC appointment as one of its delegates or for being a NomCom member.

Dear Mohammed,
Its unfortunate I could not be heard clearly during the call of today.

I must express my displeasure to learn that Hadia was just registering to be a member of AFRALO.

Its more disheartening to know that our internal selection committee failed to inform this community before the NOMCOM selection election and refused to disclose it including AFRALO leadership, thus the selection process lacks transparency to say the least and the community was misled.

In a sane clime, you cannot represent an organization you do not belong to as a bonafide member. Hence its scandalous for AFRALO leadership to have allowed this to happen.

In addition the Selection Committee fail short of due diligence and I hope we have learnt our lessons.

All the same, I wish Hadia a peaceful and successful tenure.
