Dear Hadia, AFRALO Member Representatives,

Your email is well noted. I support the appointment of Bram to this representative position in the CIP -  CCG and do believe he would be an appropriate candidate for this position.

In future I would like to find out where do the community find out about and take part in establishment or endorement for intitiatives like this one?

I would also like to take the opportunity to promote a nomination process for the above for all candidates and members of AFRALO to feel comfortable to show up in either self nomination or in nomination of their favoured candidate or to endorse for the nominated candidate as I have above.

I believe this is an important position and we do want the best representative but
that being said this is also an inclusive community and we should show up in the spirit of continuous improvement by allowing for our processes to be open, transparent and fair for all which means being transparent in the way programs are announced and how community members are nominated to these. We want to steer clear of appearing to be an "inner club" as far as is possible, we want all members to feel a part of the community while also promoting the best representation for our region.

Kind regards
Thoko Miya

Dear Hadia
I hope my email finds you well.
Formally, let me congratulate you on your assumption into office as AFRALO Chairperson. During last week's Conference call, I did offer one belatedly.
Nonetheless, even though I did not support your candidature for the office, I was one of those who supported your novel initiative of bringing together past Alumni of the ICANN Fellowship program as a Think Tank at the last meeting.
I did believe that you have a visionary plan for AFRALO and as a team player, I put my interest second to the organization's interest.

Reading this information from you on the request for the CIP  nomination and your last statement in your letter makes me sick! Bram has expressed interest in the position and I believe he has the skills required for the position. Please let me know if this works for all of you.

Is this how you are going to lead us? How can you for the first time inform the house about the nomination for a committee and end up by saying someone has indicated interest and you are asking for your approval in whatever clandestine arrangement you had with Bram? I see this as insulting our sensibilities.
When and where did Bram indicate his interest? Before you made it public to everyone? Or after? Was that the process adopted by your predecessors?

I will advise you to find out how to lead an organization as AFRALO in a democracy. This is not an autocracy and would advise you to retract your statement in reference. For this singular action, Bram should be prevented from taking part in the process of choosing our representative. Your action has exposed your integrity and compromise as a leader for all.
I have made my point and my conscience remains clear.
As usual, I won't be surprised at the chorusing of some of us looking for favours as usual in the face of abuse of office and position.

Dear All,

ICANN organisation Review Support and Accountability team, reached out to leadership of the ICANN Supporting Organisations (SOs) and Advisory Committees (ACs) to plan for implementation of the Third Accountability and Transparency Review (ATRT3) Recommendation 3.6, to evolve Organisational Reviews into a Continuous Improvement Program (CIP).

I am reaching out to you today to inform you of the attached proposed Terms of Reference for a CIP Community Coordination Group and a full letter from ICANN Review Support and Accountability team. ICANN org proposes the formation of a CIP-CCG to convene in December 2023, with the goal of developing a framework for implementation of ATRT3 Recommendation 3.6.

We are looking for one representative from AFRALO with familiarity with Organisational Reviews, but also representatives with knowledge of continuous improvement work outside of ICANN. Those that can contribute new and innovative ideas for improving the effectiveness and the accountability of the different ICANN structures. There is the importance of striking a balance between representatives with deep ICANN experience, and those that bring new perspectives.

Bram has expressed interest in the position and I believe he has the skills required for the position. Please let me know if this works for all of you.

Thank you

Hadia Elminiawi
AFRALO Chair
