I do nominate Tijani Ben Jemaa for AFRALO’s representative to ALAC.

He is a highly experienced and long-standing member of the global Internet governance community, with over 15 years of active engagement in ICANN and related ecosystems.

Within ICANN, he has held key leadership roles, including former vice chair of AFRALO and ALAC, chair of the Board Member Selection Process Committee, and member of the Nominating Committee. 

He has contributed extensively to multiple high-impact working groups, particularly around accountability, new gTLD processes, and capacity building.

Beyond ICANN, Tijani has been deeply involved in the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) at global and regional levels, serving as a speaker, organizer, and MAG member, including chairing the North African IGF. He is also a strong advocate for capacity development, convening and training across several schools of Internet governance.
His experience extends to major global initiatives such as WSIS, where he participated from inception.

He has also contributed to policy discussions through advisory and contact group roles at institutions such as PIR and the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network.

Overall, Tijani brings deep institutional knowledge, leadership experience, and a strong commitment to inclusive Internet governance.

On behalf of Jonathan Zuck, ALAC Chair, we would like to announce that the 2026 call for nominations for At-Large leadership positions is now open.

Positions Open:

Please refer to the 2026 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections, and Appointments Workspace  [icann-community.atlassian.net] and AFRALO Regional Selections [icann-community.atlassian.net] 2026  for a comprehensive list of all available positions, their criteria and job descriptions, and whether current holders of the positions are eligible for re-selection. 
 
Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:

 

·      13 April 2026 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.* (Except for NARALO that requires a call for nominations of 30 days before the start of elections on 11 May - NARALO’s call for nominations begins on 10 April 2026)

·      13 April - 24 April 2026 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 10 working days). 

·      1 May 2026 - Deadline for nomination acceptances. Candidate statements should be submitted no later than 5 May 2025.

·      4 May 2016 - 7 May 2026- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs. 

·      11 May 2026 - 15 May 2026 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline). 

·      2026 AGM [ ICANN87] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2026 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 22 October 2026. 

 

Process for Nominations: 

 Nominations including self-nominations, must be made directly to the relevant RALO mailing list and by sending a note to At-Large Staff [atlarge.icann.org]. 

 

All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large Staff [atlarge.icann.org].  All nominees must also complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace [icann-community.atlassian.net]).

 

IMPORTANT: Criteria for NomCom Delegates

 

Please note: RALOs may recommend one or more candidates to the ALAC. The appointment of NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC. Therefore, RALO recommendations are not binding

 

Specific criteria and requirements regarding the NomCom composition and NomCom delegates are outlined in the ICANN Bylaws in Article 8.  

 

The 2026 Job Description for NomCom Delegates will be posted shortly.
