Dear AFRALO Members, As we approach the voting date for the AFRALO Secretary position, I want to highlight a few of the responsibilities outlined in AFRALO Bylaws Sections 6.3 to 6.6; 6.3. The Secretariat shall be elected by the Members of AFRALO. He or she shall deal with all questions concerning the administration of the Organization. He or she shall particularly prepare the AFRALO meetings agenda in close collaboration with the Chairperson and deal with application for membership. He or she shall also manage actively AFRALO mailing list(s), and disseminate AFRALO and "ICANN related news, requests for comments on any policy development issues" to AFRALO members through the mailing list(s) in a timely manner. 6.4 Each AFRALO officer shall serve a term of two years and may be re-elected only once. For the first election of the AFRALO secretary, the term will be for only one year to permit an overlap of one year between the term of the Chair and Vice Chair, and the term of the secretary. 6.5. Having been an active member of the community, I am well aware of the AFRALO's current accomplishments and its strategic directions. Since joining the ICANN Community in 2009 and participating as an ICANN54 Fellow, I have contributed my technical expertise to various endeavors. Notably, I represented AFRALO/ALAC on the ICANN SSR2 Review Team, facilitating the successful submission of our Report to the ICANN Board. As an AFRALO member, I have advocated for multiple ICANN initiatives, spanning from Internet Governance through our University Outreach Programmes to Universal Acceptance (UA) through the UA Day Initiative for 2023 and 2024.

As we approach the voting date for the AFRALO Secretary position, I want to highlight a few of the responsibilities outlined in AFRALO Bylaws Sections 6.3 to 6.6;
6.3. The Secretariat shall be elected by the Members of AFRALO. He or she shall deal with all questions concerning the administration of the Organization. He or she shall particularly prepare the AFRALO meetings agenda in close collaboration with the Chairperson and deal with application for membership. I decided to contest the position after assessing myself and confirming that I am the right candidate for this rapidly evolving technological landscape in Africa. My personal experience and close collaboration with many ALSes are critical assets for undertaking day-to-day operations once selected. I promise only that I have the capacity to maintain and advance the current momentum if chosen for this position. AFRALO requires a positive-minded Secretary willing to accommodate all contributions from AFRALO's ALSes and the ICANN Community At-Large. That person is only Dr. Jabhera Matogoro for this time.

*Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:*
- 15 April 2024 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.* (Except for NARALO that requires a call for nominations 30 days: 28 March 2024). - 15 April – 26 April 2024 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 10 working days). - 3 May 2024 - Deadline for nomination acceptances - 6 May 2024 - 9 May 2024- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs. - 10 May - 24 May 2024 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline). - 2024 AGM [ ICANN81] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2024 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 14 November 2024.

All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff. Due to NomCom transition Section 27.5 <https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/NomCom+Transition+Section+27.5+N...>, the ALAC NomCom Delegate appointments for the 2025 NomCom will be for three (3) one-year terms and two (2) two-year terms. The ALAC will determine how it will allocate these terms.
