Cc: Yaovi Atohoun <yaovi.atohoun@icann.org> This year has been particularly tumultuous for Internet connectivity in Africa, with two major subsea outages <https://pulse.internetsociety.org/blog/what-can-we-learn-from-africas-multip...> and multiple Internet shutdowns <https://pulse.internetsociety.org/shutdowns> across at least ten countries. Despite this, the Internet has, in many cases, continued to work, thanks to the efforts of the Internet communities to improve and maintain its resilience over the years. To strengthen these efforts, the Internet Society, together with ICANN <https://pulse.internetsociety.org/glossary#icann> and AUDA, is hosting a *Free* *Webinar on 25 November 2025 from 10:00 to 12:00 *UTC <https://pulse.internetsociety.org/glossary#utc> to help community members use Internet monitoring tools to evaluate the state of Internet resilience. African ICT <https://pulse.internetsociety.org/glossary#ict> decision-makers, telecommunication regulators, telecommunication and Internet service providers, and technical community members are encouraged to join. During the webinar, participants will learn about: - The causes and impact of the 14 March 2024 subsea outage incident and how to avoid similar scenarios using Internet Society’s Pulse data. - The limitations of the current African Internet measurement infrastructure. Despite several past initiatives, there is still a low number of Internet measurement platforms, usage, deployment, and capabilities in Africa, and unfortunately, this footprint is decreasing. For example, only 240 of the 12,000+ connected RIPE Atlas probes worldwide are in Africa. - Increasing Internet measurement infrastructure in Africa to support the resilience of the Internet on the continent. *Register now!* <https://icann.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_B2v7t5fgQUmON5EzZJntWQ> *Details* - What: Webinar on the causes, consequences and ways to mitigate against major Internet outages in Africa - Where: Online (register via Zoom <https://icann.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_B2v7t5fgQUmON5EzZJntWQ>) - When: 25 November 2024 from 10:00—12:00 UTC. - Who: ICT decision-makers, telecommunication regulators, telecommunication and Internet service providers, and technical community members. - Language: The webinar will have live interpretation for Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese. _______________________________________________ AFRALO-Individual-Members mailing list -- afralo-individual-members@icann.org To unsubscribe send an email to afralo-individual-members-leave@icann.org _______________________________________________ By submitting your personal data, you consent to the processing of your personal data for purposes of subscribing to this mailing list accordance with the ICANN Privacy Policy (https://www.icann.org/privacy/policy) and the website Terms of Service (https://www.icann.org/privacy/tos).
