As usual, we plan to hold the Joint AFRALO-AfrICANN meeting and as we are so close to the date of meeting, we would like to invite you to urgently submit topics for this session.
For your information our previous statements have focused on issues like: Domain Name System (DNS) Abuse, Universal Acceptance, evolving the ICANN Multistakeholder model, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), New gTLD Subsequent Procedures, enhancing ICANN accountability, etc. Please see our previous statements here

Dear all, Raymond has suggested a very good topic, but I want to in a way, modify the topic cos the aim of the statement is to bring the attention of the board and community to a particular issue, and when it comes to UA, I think one issue we need to bring to the attention of all is one of the challenges that might be faced by all but more importantly Africans when it comes to the implementation of IDN. Therefore I would like to modify the topic to be ' Internationalised Domain Names: Can this increase DNS abuse?" Let me provide some background to this: DNS abuse may or may not likely increase with IDNs (no one can be sure for now), and it is possible that Africans might be at the receiving end. This is because if IDNs are not properly managed, it will become more difficult to recognise a fake or imitated domain. This is because, with IDNs, a .(dot) can make a difference depending on the language. This might lead to an increase in the lack of confidence in the use of the internet, especially in our part of the world where internet adoption is low. Also, we have a large percentage of those who are uneducated; therefore difficult for them to recognise these little differences. Therefore I think we need to ask ICANN to also consider this issue critically either by conducting research amog other things. Also, even with IDNs coming up there are still a lot of African languages that are not supported at the moment cos of the Root Zone level generation zone (RZ-LGR), so we need to also call attention to this. I think this is important at this time cos the EPDP on IDN is currently on and there is a need to bring to their attention the challenges that we as Africans might face with IDNs. As usual, we plan to hold the Joint AFRALO-AfrICANN meeting and as we are so close to the date of meeting, we would like to invite you to urgently submit topics for this session.
For your information our previous statements have focused on issues like: Domain Name System (DNS) Abuse, Universal Acceptance, evolving the ICANN Multistakeholder model, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), New gTLD Subsequent Procedures, enhancing ICANN accountability, etc. Please see our previous statements here

Dear Abdulkarim, Thank you very much for your valuable inputs, If I probably agree with you that a lot of african local languages are not yet accepted by LRoot and it's really a challenge for both African and global ICANN technical community to resolve this issues, and the statement that we have to develop for the ICANN75 may stress on this issues In another hand I totally disagree with you to change the title of the topic to the IDN and the non proved or non confirmed relation or association between IDN variant and DNS abuse! As surely know that UA i s not limited to the IDN , the EAI is another aspect of UA advocated by community members which constitue an opportunity for African people to use their local languages and open the door for a lot of opportunities to local business. Let me provide some background to this:
DNS abuse may or may not likely increase with IDNs (no one can be sure for now), and it is possible that Africans might be at the receiving end. This is because if IDNs are not properly managed, it will become more difficult to recognise a fake or imitated domain. This is because, with IDNs, a .(dot) can make a difference depending on the language. This might lead to an increase in the lack of confidence in the use of the internet, especially in our part of the world where internet adoption is low. Also, we have a large percentage of those who are uneducated; therefore difficult for them to recognise these little differences. Therefore I think we need to ask ICANN to also consider this issue critically either by conducting research amog other things.
Also, even with IDNs coming up there are still a lot of African languages that are not supported at the moment cos of the Root Zone level generation zone (RZ-LGR), so we need to also call attention to this. I think this is important at this time cos the EPDP on IDN is currently on and there is a need to bring to their attention the challenges that we as Africans might face with IDNs.

Dear Chokri, Thanks for your response. However, Universal Acceptance (UA) ensures that all domain names, including new top-level domains (TLDs), IDN and email addresses are treated equally and can be used by all Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems. This is the scope of UA. EAI if you mean Email Address Internationalization. yes this is part of UA, and again like I said, Raymond is right with his topic, but I was just trying to ensure that we deal with real issues that require ICANN's attention based on my little experience as a UA ambassador and also your representative on the ICANN EPDP on IDN. ICANN already knows the importance of IDN so we don't need to overflog that to them. That is why they fund UA and also set up the EPDP on IDN. However I might be wrong if the essence of the topic is for community awareness not for the attention of the ICANN board. I hope you get what I mean. My suggestion for the topic is: *Universal Acceptance acceptance as a means of accessing the internet in local languages.*
This is important most especially as several local languages are in our region and if people can access the internet in their local languages, this will bridge the digital divide gap and improve on digital inclusion.

The ICANN75 Annual General Meeting is scheduled to hold from 17-22 September 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

As usual, we plan to hold the Joint AFRALO-AfrICANN meeting and as we are so close to the date of meeting, we would like to invite you to urgently submit topics for this session.
For your information our previous statements have focused on issues like: Domain Name System (DNS) Abuse, Universal Acceptance, evolving the ICANN Multistakeholder model, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), New gTLD Subsequent Procedures, enhancing ICANN accountability, etc. Please see our previous statements here

These wide ranges of topics mentioned above are given as examples. Of course, you may suggest other topics.
As is the norm, the topic that receives the most support will be selected.
Please see our proposed timeline:
· 06- 16 July 2022: Call for topics and drafting team
· 17 July 2022: Announcement of Selected topic & drafting team composition
· 18 – 26 July 2022: First Draft of Statement
· 27 July - 02 August 2022: Second Draft of Statement
· 03 August 2022: Statement translation and sending to Staff
Kindly send your suggested topics and volunteer for drafting by Saturday 16 July 2022, after which the drafting team will be constituted to prepare a draft statement that will be shared with the rest of the members.
If you would like to join the drafting team, kindly notify us via the mailing list or to me directly off list.

Veuillez envoyer vos suggestions de sujets et vous porter volontaire pour la rédaction d'ici le Samedi 16 Juillet 2022, après quoi l'équipe de rédaction sera constituée pour préparer un projet de déclaration qui sera partagé avec le reste des membres.
