Dear all, As you know, AFRALO launched the idea of a joint meeting with all the African ICANN community to develop a statement expressing the expectations of the entire African community from the resolution 20 of the ICANN Board about providing support to applicants in need of assistance to apply for and to operate the new gTLDs. A drafting team has developed, after several weeks of work, a draft statement that it submitted to the joint meeting held in Brussels on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. The room was full and some was standing. After discussion and review, the draft statement was approved. Our statement was sent to the working group formed as per the Board Resolution 20 to seek ways of providing support to applicants for new gTLDs who need assistance. We asked them to consider its content in their future work. They immediately put it on their wiki page, and I received the official support (in writing) of one of the WG members. It was also sent to the Board, and I got the confirmation that it was transmitted to all members. Cheryl, the president of ALAC, in her report to the Board, gave a prominent place to our meeting and our declaration that she, by the way, annexed to her report. We received Congratulations and compliments from all sides. After our resounding success in Nairobi with our Showcase that became a ritual activity of the RALO in which region the ICANN meeting is held, this statement gave us enough visibility and credibility to make AFRALO looked at as the most active and innovative RALO.
