Dear AFRALO Community, I would like to nominate Beran Dondeh Gillen as the interim ALAC Member selected by AFRALO. Since this is an interim position, Beran is in a good position to fill it as she was part of ALAC Leadership in the past (2013-2015). She had taken some time off to focus on family issues and her professional life, but has been following At-Large work. She has also been involved in Internet Governance discussions, and particularly ICANN policy development for several years. I worked with her in 2016 on the Community Onboarding Pilot Program, which was a mentorship-based program with an objective of improving engagement and retention of new participants within ICANN. This was from ICANN55 to ICANN60. Outside ICANN, she is the CEO and Co-Founder of The Hub, a tech innovator hub in the Gambia. I believe that the ALAC and AFRALO will benefit from her experience and expertise. Please read more from her Statement of Internet (SOI). Dear All, I share the concerns of AK. This further put pay to my continuos concerns on the deliberate attempt by certain leadership within AFRALO that continues to foist people on us as a way of rewarding friendship or just mere nepotism or favoritism. Why would the AFRALO Chairman be seen to be so overtly partisan and call it 'an exception'? The name Beran is news to me in all my 13 years in AFRALO. I have nothing personal against him/her, but what happened to all the active members within AFRALO? We hope one day, hopefully in Accra we shall all be bold for once to review our ROP and put up a ROP that can stand the test of time and not this endemic african leaders mentality of sit-tight syndrome or APPOINTING their stooges to positions of authority. Dear all, I am just curious as to the contribution of Beran to the AFRALO community since she left ALAC. How many of the AFRALO meetings has she atteened since leaving ALAC. I really don't know Beran within the community for obvious reasons. I only know the name cos I read about the history of AFRALO at some point. I am not against her nomination but am surprised by it. Where are the active people like Chokri, Bukola, Dr Jebera, Remmy.
Yes it a temporary but....
I hope we have more nominations.

Dear AFRALO Community,
I would like to nominate Beran Dondeh Gillen as the interim ALAC Member selected by AFRALO.

Dear Afralo Colleagues I would like to take this opportunity to announce my withdrawal as a candidate for the AFRALO representative to the ALAC. I have read through some of the comments and given I am contesting to represent AFRALO at the ALAC, I would not want anyone on this list to feel hard done by or otherwise as a result of my candidature. As was rightly pointed out, these leadership positions are to serve the people. After much thought, I would like to withdraw as a candidate with immediate effect. I would like to thank those who nominated me and those who have supported my candidature. I will continue to engage and look forward to the GA. I wish the rest of the candidates luck and everyone a great week ahead. Best regards Beran Dondeh Gillen

Dear colleagues,
Since this is an interim position, I will make an exception on this one by lending my voice to this nomination. Isaac has well enumerated some of the qualities of Beran and I have no doubt that she will be a good replacement to Sarah both on diversity, commitment and experience reasons.
I support her nomination and hopes she accepts as well.

Dear AFRALO Community,
I would like to nominate Beran Dondeh Gillen as the interim ALAC Member selected by AFRALO.

*Dear AFRALO family,* May this meet you well. Permit me to thank Raymond and Chokri for this nomination which I hereby accept to complete the term for our own dear Sarah Kiden who recently stepped aside as AFRALO representative to ALAC. I look forward to bringing my Information and Communications Technology (ICT) experience and new media skills to bear on this ALAC assignment as always, with documented feedback and reports. As you may recall, I am the pioneer and current team lead cum chairman of the AFRALO Newsletter Team which have been publishing since inception up to Volume 11 that we just concluded to share developing and success stories as it may affect and concern At-Large Structures (ALSes) on our continent of Africa and its membership. It’s no longer news that the template for the AFRALO Newsletter was promptly developed by me soon after our emergence despite the varying challenges we face on the continent. Do permit me to share my brief profile with you, as below. *Brief Profile: Remmy Nweke for ALAC Representative* *REMMY NWEKE *is the Lead Consulting Strategist at DigitalSENSE Africa <https://www.digitalsenseafrica.com.ng>, an ICANN-certified At-Large Structure (ALS) and a project of international multiple award-winning ITREALMS Media group <https://www.itrealms.com.ng>, where he is the Group Executive Editor. A dynamic member at AFRALO and ALAC monthly calls, Remmy has been an active player on development of our AFRICANN Statements that we advance at every pre-ICANN meeting and a member of the 2023 AFRALO General Assembly Organising Committee, where he has brought his ICT event planning and project management to bear. Dependable member and former Executive Director, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) Remmy served as the chairman, Publicity at NIRA and on various committees including the Establishment and Finance, Accreditation as well as promoted the institutionalization of NIRA House and pioneered the NIRA Media College during his term on the board, among other initiatives, with collaboration of Executive Board of Directors (EBoD). Dear AFRALO Family You will agree with me that these are interesting times in the AFRALO Family. I am proposing to @ICANN At-Large Staff <staff@atlarge.icann.org> to begin to prepare for a Meet the Cadidates Conference call for those vying for this position as was done for others. It will be good for them to come address us and take questions from us to justify why any of them deserve our votes. Thank you.
