Hello all, am important question was asked today, on how to get governments to be made more aware about the facts regarding the IANA Stewardship Transition. This is indeed not an easy task. Being able to speak to the right person(s) in government is often a real challenge. Of course the obvious routes are via the personal connections and your networking between your ALS and your government representatives. But Seun Ojedeji also mentioned during the AFRALO-AfrICANN meeting that there is a forthcoming opportunity for engagement and for capacity building of African representatives for ICTs - and that's the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference. While NTIA Stewardship Transition is not a topic for the Plenipotentiary conference, in the corridors, this topic might well come up in informal discussions. This would be the opportunity for any of you who would be present there, to be able to share reliable information - and I suggest a fact sheet about the function of the NTIA stewardship. I mean a fact sheet - as in a 1-pager, double sided. One side in English, one side in French. I wonder whether anyone has thought about producing this. Kind regards, Olivier

Olivier, Since most governments are represented at the GAC level, are we not supposed to assume that they are aware of all the intricacies of the IANA transition and what ICG is doing? ______________________ Mwendwa Kivuva, Nairobi, Kenya twitter.com/lordmwesh "There are some men who lift the age they inhabit, till all men walk on higher ground in that lifetime." - Maxwell Anderson
Hello Kivuva, I'm not sure that all governments actually participate in the activities of the GAC. I propose that this issue be further upgrade of different platforms, more specifically, at the next IGF in national, regional and Africa level. The transition from IANA is a very relevant and deserves remark we attracted the attention of our policy makers 2014-10-16 10:48 GMT+02:00 Mwendwa Kivuva <Kivuva@transworldafrica.com>:

By the time we are holding the next rounds of IGF, the IANA transition process will be behind us. Look at the timelines below. That is why several mailing lists were setup, and different stakeholders advised of the need to move with speed. Dec 2014: Review of the outcome of all regional consultations for a first attempt of consolidation 1 January 2015: Publish an RIR consolidated outcome for inputs and discussion online by the community 15 January 2015: Submission of transition plan to the ICG 27 February 2015: ICG to produce draft transition plan March - May 2015: NRO regional consultation about ICG draft transition plan 29 May 2015: Submission of response to draft transition plan to the ICG 26 June 2015: ICG to send final proposal to USG The transition from IANA is a very relevant and deserves remark we attracted the

Sure it should, participating in GAC is not the only means of government involvement. Encouraging govt who are not part of GAC to participate is important. Cheers!

Hi Olivier, Thanks for this suggestion, it's also mainly towards creating awareness for the development of domain names in Africa. Especially the ccTLD as it seem some govt are just not aware of what's happening to their tld and how they can benefit from it. Same with ipv6 deployment as some countries enjoy carrier monopoly, it will be good if their govt get them to deploy v6. However, this can only happen if they are aware of the benefits. In all this, it is more of one-on-one meet to discuss with those folks that may be more effective. Thanks again. Cheers! sent from Google nexus 4 kindly excuse brevity and typos.
