This is an interesting discussion. Having read the comments, I want to also acknowledge that indeed there is too much information. Getting people to first get engaged in ICANN is the easier part, but getting them to stay engaged is a challenge. 

I find the beginner's guide as shared by Olivier is very useful. I read through it before my first ICANN meeting. The information is still hard for someone to take in at once (as Maureen mentioned) but it can be divided into smaller bits. The ICANN Learn courses good as they are self-paced.

It is a dilemma! Videos are great but some people do not have unlimited bandwidth and would prefer to save videos for later or find alternatives. So a mix of text, videos, images is great.  

We just have to continuously engage, never giving up. In most cases when you stay long enough, then you begin to make sense of the discussions. The catch is to get someone to stay that long.

Multimedia materials, short visual descriptions of each component of ICANN, 3-minute video clips explaining what each Working Group, Committee or Organization within ICANN does would be helpful. It is sometimes difficult to find things in ICANN's World because "we the people - civil society" sometimes have to "guess" what and where topics of interest are defined or categorized. Once you get involved to develop some skills on "how and where" to look for the information desired.

Some tools that could help are:

I recently completed the ccNSO course at - http://learn.icann.org/p/ccnso-onboarding and found it very helpful. However, it has some images that are overwhelming with information and no way to drill into the details. That would be helpful!

I agree with all that the resources are great, are in various languages, but something is missing! How can we get ICANN's work accessible to more individuals in a way that they can say "Aha!, this is how I can get involved in ICANN and better serve by community from within this global organization."

Actually all of the Beginners Guides are translated in the 5 UN languages. It's actually the main point of the Beginners Guides, that they are translated.

I love those videos where an artist draws a flowchart as a visual to explain a process - no language but the message is clear.
A new online guidebook could consist of a series of flowcharts that introduce and explain each process.
By clicking onto the flowchart you would access the artist's "explanation" of how the process occurs, but no actual voice-over required - so no language barriers..

I fully support this. The problem, in my opinion, is not the language. It's the medium that the message is delivered on. In a world where young people have stopped reading anything else than instant messages, we need to reduce written content to short paragraphs and add audio visual content.

Olivier,

One suggestion I have is to augment the « Task Force on ALS Engagement » section with a mention of the difficulties some ALSes may have in explaining to their members how they are able to participate and helping them to understand the basic At Large structure and dynamics so that their participation becomes easier.

It’s certainly an issue we’ve had in the individual users’ org and I think it would be useful to reflect this in EURALO’s Outreach Plan.
