I agree Mwendwa. There is a lot to be said for ALSes being guided by assigned mentors at ICANN meetings – and basically following them around and being introduced to people and getting them up to speed with what the working groups and RALO meetings are about so that they can participate because they are more comfortable with the people they are amongst and are better informed and supported.  This is inreach/ capacity building – which I see as the same thing.

Thanks Dev for the clarification.

My idea of "effective communication skills " is adviced by my view that more people from ALSes are not able to participate effectively because they have the perceived view that they cannot express themselves well enough,  and even if they can, they don't have the confidence to do so. My view is from observations and interaction with other participants. Probably if we demystify how easy it is to participate in the difference platforms at our disposal,  we can start to see more people in these spaces.

A skills analysis was supposed to be done as one of the ATLAS II recommendations which was tasked to be done by the RALO secretariats. As far as I know, some preliminary surveys were done, but didn't get enough responses because many persons didn't understand the intent of the surveys. The discussion by the RALO secretariats at ICANN53 was that the survey will be done over.

Following the successful series of capacity building webinars during the first half of 2015, topics are now being sought for At-Large Capacity Building webinars to be held between September and December 2015.

 

Please post your suggested topics directly on the At-Large Capacity Building Webinars - Topic Proposals for 2015 Workspace or send your topics to At-Large Staff. The deadline for topic proposals is 24 August.

 

The At-Large Capacity Building Working Group will review all proposals and announce the topics to be presented in early September.
