The Upcoming EURALO activities in Eastern Europe region
Dear colleagues, Today in Marakkesh we had an informal short working meeting with Natalia Mochu (Global Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Eastern Europe and Central Asia). We were discussing the possibility to reshape our representation the covering the activities of Euralo in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. This region is still not actively represented in our RALO and we should to start to change this situation. Following this meeting, let me suggest for the discussion the next possibility activities: - Natalia invited me to participate in the open "ICANN65 readout webinar" (scheduled on July 11) with a short presentation about our work and the opportunity to join Euralo. The participants – the stakeholders in ICANN, the Regions – Eastern Europe and Central Asia. (Previous at-Large participant, Liana Galstyan, presented APRALO). For the participation i will prepare a short presentation (if we already have it or infographics, i may use it) about the mechanism of our work explaining how the opinion of end users is transformed during the work into part of the policy development process. - The Interaction with RIPE NCC. According to preliminary data, the representatives of engagment interested in beginning such work. (We can hold joint open webinars after each RIPE or ICANN meetings, for example). - We need to start a new tradition to replace the (a little bit) passive position in the region to active role by the invitation of the appropriated organizations (to organize f2f meetings or online-webinars) if this organizations are not yet our ALSs, but potentially may bring to our work a lot of useful suggestions, experience of best solution (I mean the organizations which are working on the Internet right and freedom protection field, as an example). - We should to use the opportunity of the physical presence with short introduction presentations at events in the region (we are talking about events which don`t required the funding for the presence). This is already implied theoretically, but practically we don`t use this possibility. I kindly ask you to give the feedback and comments. Hi Natalia Two comments. * when doing outreach please do not target only potential ALSes but also individual users - I know you have that in mind, but I did not see it explicitly in your report * one of the commitment ALAC has taken is to be the ambassadors for Universal Acceptance - please make sure that among the activities planned in the region you bring this message forward I also have a question. Since the region you mention covers not only European countries but also South Caucasus and Central Asia, would it make sense to coordinate also with APRALO? About South Caucasus, our EURALO Individual Users association has already individual users joining as observers - this opportunity could be highlighted during your meetings in that part of the world because in my experience there is some interest in being involved in European activities in South Caucasus - also as a first step in the process of moving those countries to the ICANN Europe region. Dear Roberto, thank you for the comments and important notes. Please be so kind to find my thoughts below: Yes, we definetely will focus on the fact that in addition to ALSs, every RALO in general and EURALO particular welcome individuals. And it is especially important to note that the active core of Euralo is big group of the individual members. South Caucasus.The last webinar was attended by Liana Galstyan as APRALO leader. We will give a general information about At-Large (as I see my role), the presence of observers and blur the boundaries of the geography to work just in 1 RALO. I believe the participants of this and the next webinars must have as possible a full information about the possibility to find their regional landing in our community. The UA topic will be mentioned, as well as all EURALO hot topics, as a call to contribute the development of them, to add the valuable information about the domestic problems, achievements and sourses of the progress in the technology side and the interest of end users. I also have a question. Since the region you mention covers not only European countries but also South Caucasus and Central Asia, would it make sense to coordinate also with APRALO?
