HI Tijani,
Crop was designed for both outreach and engagement, that is why it allowed to be used for ICANN meetings. I do think attending an ICANN meeting can help with engagement and so I am not against this use. I do have some issues of using CROP funding for ICANN, but have no issues in using this funding to support an additional person to join the COP. However, unless we can change the rules for At Large we cannot use it for an out of region trip. However, those RALOs who chose to use crop and have one of their members join the COP for that particular ICANN meeting should be supported. The COP's goal is engagement and if it can increase the engagement of a new member through the CROP program that that is a good idea. This is why I support use of CROP to be part of the COP. However, unless additional money can be found to support the CROP traveller for more than 3 days 4 nights it could be problematical if the person leaves before the ICANN meeting is finished.
Best,
Judith

Dear all,
I said when the CROP fund was used first for people to go to ICANN meetings, that this is a mistake. This program (CROP) was designed to make outreach for new people. Now that it’s proposed that CROP is used for the COP menses, I say nooo. No for the following reasons:
- Doing so will minimize the opportunity for outreach which is the sole objective of this program
- The Onboarding program would be with no interest if it is for only one meeting. Remember how many meetings took the first pilot program (From Marrakech to Abu Dhabi = 4-5 meetings)
We will end up with the ICANN org cancel the CROP program because we are using it for what wasn’t intended to be the objective.
As for the selection of the Mentors / Mentees, we are supposed now to do it through the community. Since we are supposed to be a bottom-up decision making community, let’s take proposals from the RALOs. The final selection from the pool the RALOs proposed should be done by the selection committee (we have created a committee, let’s use it).

Dear Maritza,
thanks for your follow-up. Indeed, the program is now already published on social media and everywhere. I did not think it was going to be publicised so quickly.
Yet, I have not seen the discussion start on how people will be selected for this program. RALOs?
SO: Not an option since slots can't go round per RALO.
Outreach & Engagement WG Chairs?
SO: Can be an option but their work has been reviewing regional applications hence this may be new for them and may not necessarily be inline with their existing administrative processes. However they may make contribution to the requirements.
ALAC?
SO: Can be the final endorsement point but not to review.
ALAC Leadership Team?
SO: Probably but will not recommend based on the next option.
ALAC Selection Committee?
SO: I think this group are used to reviewing and selecting such non-RALO centric positions and may be in a better place to perform this task.
Overall my suggestion is to push this to the ASC.

Olivier

Dear Olivier,
Thank you very much for your answer. The sense of my question is because this this program is already published in social media so maybe soon we will have questions about the procedure and so on.

thanks for your follow-up. I'd hold off sending anything to communities yet, until we know how the selection process will work. The deadline for sending names to the Onboarding Program is 15 December so we have time to discuss the process before moving forward.
Kindest regards,
Olivier

Thanks Beran.
So that's going to be two people being selected for the Onboarding Program thus 1 mentor & 1 mentee. I am copying the RALO Secretariats & the Outreach & Engagement working group as we need to discuss what our selection process is going to be for this. Of course, 1 or 2 mentors and 5 mentees, one for region, would be a lot better for us; however budgets are not high enough to sustain this.
Kindest regards,
Olivier
