The ESADT, Board Seat 15 and voting
Hi, I just submitted a blog piece on my disappointment that we will not be seeing a vote the next time ALAC selects someone for the ICANN Board. http://avri.doria.org/post/40444728591/letinternetusersvote avri
Avri, I suggest that at least putting a short note and the link to this piece in the comments space on several key wiki pages relevant to this topic might be a good ideas as well (in the general esadt space as well as the specific Selection of Board Seat 15 one) so the this view and analysis is readily available when eerily periodically review this topic (and not just now within the overall RoP review process) On 14/01/2013 6:11 AM, "Avri Doria" <avri@acm.org> wrote:

Dear Cheryl, I have to admit I have trouble finding all those appropriate inside places for comment. I would have thought this list was a good as one could do. Despite my long experience at ICANN and my several year experience in At-Large I still find the At-Large web+wiki space a labyrinth. Assuming I am still around if ever the Electorate is deemed in-topic, I will bring it up again. In fact, I am not sure I am going to stop bringing it up in the interim, as I will consider a Board seat selection that does not include a wider electorate, suspect at best. avri On 13 Jan 2013, at 15:08, Cheryl Langdon-Orr wrote:

Thanks for helping me to follow CLO's instructions. I have done as was requested. Then again, that might be the problem: I followed instructions for close on 2 years to try and get the topic on the table regarding the electorate but failed at every turn. Maybe I failed because I was following instructions. Lessons learned. avri On 13 Jan 2013, at 17:46, Eduardo Diaz wrote:

Avri, to be clear, this was discussed - a lot. And decided. But like rights protection mechanisms, I guess those who do not like the outcome will raised the issue again. At 13/01/2013 06:53 PM, Avri Doria wrote:

Hi, Really? When was this discussed since the first trial of the process. I was informed that the entire procedure would be reviewed before the next (s)election. Was that never the plan? Is it really the plan to not review the (se)election process? If so, what was the point of the entire ROP. And I was acting like those who want more RPMs, I would have gone to Fadi with my complaint as opposed to using the so-called proper channels to review a once used process. Thanks for the suggestion avri On 13 Jan 2013, at 19:52, Alan Greenberg wrote:

All I can give is my understanding, which may well be wrong, and I will let Cheryl, who oversaw both processes correct me. I do not recall any intent to review the entire selection process before the next selection. I do recall that there was an intent to do a postmortem and fix any operational issues that came up, but not to rethink the overall methodology. Regarding the RoP re-write, the intent has always been to adjust the rules and most certainly to clarify them and make them understandable and clear. There was not an intent (again, from my understanding) to change any basic principles, and that was said quite explicitly with respect to the Rule 27 reformulation. And for the record, I was not comparing your raising this issue to the origins of the present RPM discussion, just the re-opening of issues that had been debated and closed.
