Dear All:
Hope you are doing well, and back home and safe for those attending the meeting in Puerto Rico.
I will provide you with some updates on the most important ccNSO topics during ICANN79.
*SESSIONS HIGHLIGHTS*
I would like to highlight 2 very interesting sessions:
*Session: INTERNET FRAGMENTATION*
*Recording Zoom Link: *
https://icann.zoom.us/rec/play/eb-OoiMwx70VVEltpq36XGJ7rVeizqVsxxa5oeKwiHZNG...
Internet fragmentation is defined in many different ways.
The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Policy Network on Internet Fragmentation (PNIF) identified three key dimensions of Internet fragmentation:
· Fragmentation of the Internet user experience,
· Fragmentation of the Internet’s technical layer, and
· Fragmentation of Internet governance and coordination.
Fragmentation has potentially significant implications for country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). At ICANN79, the ccNSO Internet Governance Liaison Committee (IGLC) is organizing a session to explore how fragmentation affects ccTLDs from different regions. What should ccTLDs be aware of, what are the regulatory realities and what are the approaches being taken by ccTLDs?
Session chair: Annaliese Williams (.au)
- Elena Plexida (ICANN org, Vice President for Government and IGO Engagement)
- Bruna Martins dos Santos (PNIF)
- Molehe Wesi (.za)
- Demi Getschko (.br)
- Barrack Otieno (AFTLD)

Previous editions of the ccTLD News Sessions included a collection of case studies, statistics, new developments, trends, and more. The ccTLD News Sessions have been part of the ccNSO Members Meetings for several years. They have provided a global platform for both experienced and new people to meet, share experiences, and discuss ccTLD-related aspects.

*POLICY UPDATE: ccPDP4 IDN ccTLD String Selection*
The ccPDP4 Working Group defines the criteria, process and procedures for the (de)selection of IDN ccTLDs associated with the country codes assigned to countries, territories or other areas of geopolitical interest listed in the ISO 3166-1 standard. The results of this ccPDP4 will eventually replace the IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process.
The Working Group completed its final report by ICANN79, taking into account the assessment made following its recent request for comments. This includes the general policy proposals for the IDN ccTLD string selection process. It also includes proposals for variant management, confusing similarity, de-selection and review mechanisms. The final report was presented and adopted by the ccNSO Council and is expected to be submitted by ICANN80 to the ICANN Board. Read the Final Report by the ccPDP4.
