Re: [ALAC] [ALAC-Internal] [ALAC-Announce] Community Call with Board Liaison Candidates
Hello I wish to withdraw my candidature to the position of ALAC liaison to the Board. I would be more interested in seeking a nomination to the ICANN Board as a voting Board member during the 2010 nomination process. I see from staff email yesterday there won't be a second call. Thanks anyway to the three candidates, Alan, Sébastien and Wendy, who completed the doodle poll.
How quickly can the transcript and recording be made available? Voting is scheduled to begin on 21st September at 12:00 UTC.

Yes I know it is hard to make lots of calls at difficult hours sometimes (especially when you are a volunteer) but I also believe that we also need to accept that sometimes *a one off call* (not routine ones that is different =>I do with the many GNSO-WG meetings representing the ALAC that meet routinely each week of fortnight at 0300, 0400 or 0500+ start times, I decided/agreed as the times were settled that the outcome for better PDP processes and having an At-Large/ALAC view incorporated into it as well as the active development of better partnership and mutual understanding between the GNSO players and the ALAC was worth the temporary inconvenience = my choice) can be seen as vital (or not) as to how a volunteer carries out the role they offered themselves to perform; and of course some volunteers make an 'in principal choice of no call after this or that time of day for perfectly good and valid reasons and we all should be able to understand this...
However one of the strengths of how the ALAC does its bussiness these days i.e. its meetings and deliberations is the combination of an 'in camera principalt' and he quite extensive record and review options of what happens at a meeting (our Wiki's, transcripts, conduct of recordings {often in three languages} etc.,) and this Call with Board Liaison Candidates will utilise all of this as well as encourage via comments to the meeting WIKI page, or direct communication (email etc.,) to Staff, the ALAC Chair or I'm sure other ALAC, RALO or ALS members who are attending the call, being formally 'read to the record' and asked 'in proxy' to the candidate(s)... Again all of this will be on the record and this record can obviously be used by Adam or any one else (of the 15 Member ALAC electorate or wider world) to review this vitally important meeting and therefore be able to 'catch up' in a convenient point in time quite effectively in my opinion... as a Footnote previous experience has shown me that this record (specifically MP3's / transcripts) have also been of value to people who have attended the meeting or call and wanted to later cross check or affirm something...

Dear All,
As set out in the 2009 Board Election Process < https://st.icann.org/alac-docs/index.cgi?board_liaison_process_2009> (EN only), a special purpose teleconference shall be arranged not earlier than Friday, 18th September and not later than Sunday, 20th September at which the candidates for Board Liaison as forwarded from the RALOs to the ALAC shall be provided an equal length of time to speak about their candidature. The ALAC Chair will determine the length of time each candidate will speak prior to the start of the call. This will be followed by a question and answer period during which community members may ask questions of the candidates. The call will also include an explanation of the election process for the board liaison as well as the implications for this position following the Board's decision of 27th August 2009 for the At-Large community to select a voting director to the Board.
So as to make the call at a time convenient for as many regions as possible, the call is scheduled for Sunday, 20th September at 18:00 UTC
(11:00 PDT/14:00 EDT/15:00 Buenos Aires/19:00 CEST/04:00 Sydney on Monday, 21st September).
This call shall be recorded and transcribed and conducted in English, Spanish, and French through the use of interpreters.
Further call details will be sent out shortly.
We recognize that this time may not be suitable for everyone in all regions, especially those in the Eastern hemisphere. Therefore, in order to ensure that as many people within the At-Large community are able to be on a call with the Board Liaison candidates, a Doodle is being offered for a potential additional call on Saturday, 19th September at times more suitable for people living in the Eastern hemisphere if there is sufficient demand. Please only respond to the Doodle if you are unable to participate in the call scheduled for Sunday, 20th September at 18:00 UTC. This call will be recorded and transcribed and conducted in English only. The Doodle is available here:
