Report from participating as a newbie into ICANN#56
Dear ALAC and RALO Leaders, I thought I would share this report with you. It is a personal initiative of the IETF Liaison to the ICANN Board (permission was given to share the report where it can be helpful). There are constructive suggestions on what may help end users who walk into an ICANN meeting with no previous understanding of the organisation or community. Best regards, Rinalia -- Rinalia
Thanks Rinalia. It would be interesting to do the same experiment with someone who has limited (or no) English skills, or a person who is differently-abled. satish On Sun, Nov 6, 2016 at 1:41 PM, <wafa@ati.tn> wrote:

Thank you Rinalia for sharing this, I find it interesting in that the Community Onboarding Program which I am a part of is also working on this exact issue. The Program is a pilot program that started in Marrakech. A mentor is chosen from each of the Stakeholder groups with one or two mentees under this mentor. These mentees are also chosen by the DPRD under the leadership of Janice. From Marrakech to date, we have been working on a toolkit for each of our stakeholder groups on how to best onboard newcomers to our respective groups. Another end product of this pilot program is expected to be a general toolkit to be used by ICANN for new comers (regardless of stakeholder group affiliation). So this report really feeds into the work we are doing and I would love to actually talk to the IETF liaison for more information. Thanks again for sharing this. Regards Beran

Hi Rinalia, Many thanks, this is a very good document. I think ICANN has not packaged/branded itself in a way that can easily be understood. I am actively involved in outreach activities and i find this as a major challenge. In my region people equated the Internet to Yahoo and it was so fashionable to have a Yahoo address, it was the in thing post the Post Office Box. I think the board and Community needs to review ICANN's branding and communication Strategy. Best Regards On 11/6/16, Rinalia Abdul Rahim <rinalia.abdulrahim@gmail.com> wrote:
