Regulatory Briefing Series Kick Off: WSIS+20 Discussion held on 2025/01/13 The first session of the ALAC-GAC Regulatory Developments Briefing Series focused on WSIS+20 outcomes and implications for the ICANN community. Agenda Highlights: Welcome and Opening Remarks: By Jonathan Zuck (ALAC Chair), Zeina Bou Harb (GAC Vice Chair), and Joanna Kulesza (ALAC Liaison to the GAC). Introductory Context: Remarks by Veni Markovski (Interim Head of Government and IGO Engagement, ICANN). WSIS+20 Report: Presented by Elena Plexida (VP, Government and IGO Engagement) and Chris Disspain (Senior Advisor, Identity Digital). Overview of WSIS+20 developments and recommendations for community action. Open Discussion: Moderated by Joanna Kulesza, ALAC Liaison to the GAC, focusing on reactions, community action plans, and next steps. Takeaways: Strong emphasis on collaboration and alignment of WSIS+20 priorities with ICANN’s multistakeholder model. Project Highlights: Objective: A platform for regular discussions on regulatory trends, fostering transparency and collaboration between GAC and ALAC. Implementation: Monthly sessions supported by ICANN and coordinated by the At-Large community. Following the WSIS+20 meeting, we received valuable input from current ICANN community memerbs who serve as MAG representatives. We will facilitate them in collaborating with the broader ICANN community to track developments in the IGF 2025 schedule. Efforts are underway to integrate our shared WSIS+20 narrative into the IGF themes. With the inaugural MAG meeting set for the second week of February, we will maintain close communication with MAG representatives to monitor the IGF agenda and identify opportunities for community input. Feedback and suggestions for future topics are encouraged as planning progresses. Item 2: ICANN 82: ALAC-GAC Bilateral Session Planning The ALAC-GAC Bilateral Session is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 March 2025, from 09:00–10:00 UTC. Proposed Theme: The GAC has proposed WSIS+20 as the theme for the session, with the following draft agenda: Overview and Implications: Introductory remarks and WSIS+20 outcomes. Priorities: Collaborative opportunities for multistakeholder governance, bridging the digital divide, and capacity building. Open Discussion: Interactive Q&A on action steps. Alternative Themes Under Consideration: Applicant Support in the Next Round: Enhancing equitable participation. DNS Abuse and the INFERMAL Report: Insights and community engagement. Continuous Improvement Programme: Strengthening ICANN’s multistakeholder processes. The WSIS+20 theme remains a priority but was extensively discussed in prior sessions.
