That's because the problem is NOT Cancun. Instead, it is an innate problem of putting a bunch of people in one space, including those from countries that had seen cases, including the US. Moving the meeting would make absolutely NO difference. This is a question whether to cancel or not. Moving the meeting would simply be an unjustified slap in the face to Mexico. I wasn't commenting on the current situation nor was I commenting on the wisdom of past ICANN decisions. I was just pointing out that all cities/conference venues are NOT equal in this respect. This is a multi-body problem (ie one where there are many issues and they inter-related with each other) and many of the issues are qualitative and not quantitative. Both understanding of the issues and judgement calls are involved. And one of those issues is what risks are the participants willing to take. In the current case, I have a good degree of faith in the abilities of ICANN security team and consultants for the former, and our community has an opportunity to comment on the level of risk we want to allow through the input that Maureen has been asked to provide next week. After that it is up to the Board to make a decision... Maureen, one of the things I think you could raise with Goran relates to what we might be facing at the Cancun airport. I have already heard stories of lengthy delays getting through immigration here in Canada where, I would have thought, we were equipped to handle this. Cancun airport, according to the ICANN67 webpage, is a very large and busy airport with many flights coming and going from all around the world. What do we know about the added screening process at the airport and the potential delays, lengthy lineups, etc. Another good way to pick up a virus is to spend hours in immigration queues with hundreds of other visitors in hot stuffy conditions. As you know, ICANN org is actively monitoring developments worldwide concerning the novel coronavirus (2019-nCov). We take the health and safety of our staff, Board and community members very seriously and wish to do the right thing to continue to ensure that everyone remains safe and informed. In this regard, you may have heard that some international conference organizers are, like ICANN, monitoring and evaluating the locations and timings of their events. Earlier today, the GSM Association (GSMA) announced that it was canceling the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that had been scheduled to take place in Barcelona from 24-27 February 2020.

In light of these developments, I write now to ask whether you have heard any concerns from amongst your members or other community members about traveling to Cancun for ICANN67. While we have no immediate plans to cancel or reschedule the Cancun meeting, it will be very helpful to hear the community's feedback so that we can take it into account in our planning. As such, please let me or David Olive know if you or your group have information or concerns you would like to share. Hi Judith, in the last 10-11 days, I have travelled via about 10 airports (Manchester (UK), London (UK), London Gatwick (UK), Lagos (Nigeria), Abuja (Nigeria), Ilorin (Nigeria), Doha) (Qatar), Addis- Ababa (Ethiopia) Melbourn (Australia) and Perth (Australia) airports).

From my experience, things were relatively normal as only a few people were having a face mask on. I didn't use a face mask. The only thing I noticed especially in the big airports was that few Chinese passengers were flying and temperate measuring device was used in all the Nigeria airports, But I think those have been in place since the Ebola outbreak. I also noticed that there was periodic announcement about anyone feeling unwell and it was easy to navigate through the airports. The only inconvenience for me was that I rescheduled my flight and avoided travelling via Hong Kong which would have offered me a shorter connecting time cos the fear of the virus But in general, I think there is no need to panic AK

What do we know about the added screening process at the airport and the potential delays, lengthy lineups, etc.

Another good way to pick up a virus is to spend hours in immigration queues with hundreds of other visitors in hot stuffy conditions.

Dear all I'm at APRICOT2020, together with Maureen and Lianna. The situation here in Melbourne is normal, with little use of masks in the venue, streets or even in the casino next door. Except for a few ground handling staff at the Dubai airport, I have not encountered significant mask usage anywhere during my travel either. SITREPs from the World Health Organization (see https://www.who.int/docs/default-source/coronaviruse/situation-reports/20200... for the latest in the series) is an authoritative source for information. Outside China, there appear to be just about 20 new cases (from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and France) as of yesterday. In my own country (India), we had three cases, all in my home province of Kerala. All three were medical students at Wuhan. They have been let go after they recovered fully and tested negative multiple times for the virus over an extended quarantine period. As of now, India has zero active cases. Dear All, Having looked at the travel concerns on the thread. We just finished our ATRT3 meeting in Brussels and there was little or no risk as everything was normal at the Brussels Airport. I travelled through Doha, it was usual. I have been through to Tanzania and Kenya, and travel activities are usual. Dear All, I would take the risk as well. Also, the same inconveniences of making the meeting in Cancun can be argued for Kuala Lumpur (even in Hamburg). According to what I have read in different media, an eventual vaccine against Coronavirus will take more than a year to develop. If the Cancun meeting is canceled, the same should also be done with the other meetings this year, or at least, the meeting in Kuala Lumpur. Regards

in the last 10-11 days, I have travelled via about 10 airports (Manchester (UK), London (UK), London Gatwick (UK), Lagos (Nigeria), Abuja (Nigeria), Ilorin (Nigeria), Doha) (Qatar), Addis- Ababa (Ethiopia) Melbourn (Australia) and Perth (Australia) airports).

From my experience, things were relatively normal as only a few people were having a face mask on. I didn't use a face mask. The only thing I noticed especially in the big airports was that few Chinese passengers were flying and temperate measuring device was used in all the Nigeria airports, But I think those have been in place since the Ebola outbreak. I also noticed that there was periodic announcement about anyone feeling unwell and it was easy to navigate through the airports.

The only inconvenience for me was that I rescheduled my flight and avoided travelling via Hong Kong which would have offered me a shorter connecting time cos the fear of the virus

But in general, I think there is no need to panic
