The Public Internet Registry (PIR) announced an expansion of its Quality Performance Index (QPI) to make it freely available to other registries seeking to improve and grow the quality of their domain name spaces.
This expansion of QPI will enable other registries to adapt the QPI roadmap and toolkits so they can identify best practices and incentivize registrars to reduce abuse rates and increase renewals.
The PIR made the decision to make it freely available after observing its impact on the .ORG domain space: .ORG remains the least abused of all large generic top-level domains (gTLDs); participating registrars saw a marked improvement (4 percent) in renewal rates; and approximately 50 percent of all new .ORGs were registered through the QPI program.
