For those who may be
interested, sharing a brief update on Pre ICANN65 interactive online
discussion on 7 June, organised by CCAOI and ISOC Delhi.
The objective of the webinar
was for providing community members an overview of the upcoming Policy meeting
of ICANN to be held in Marrakech from 24-28 June. Moderated by Amrita
Choudhury, Director CCAOI, President, ISOC Delhi, the session was attended
by over 50 people from 10 countries, covering three continents.
Samiran Gupta from ICANN
provided an overview of the meeting, agenda
and expected policies to be discussed. Aftab Siddqui, Chair, Address Supporting
Organization Address Council (ASO AC)
provided an overview of the Number Council. Brajesh Jain, NomCom Member shared
about the timelines and expected candidate interviews by NomCom in Marrakech.
This was followed by a
discussion of five key hot policy topics which would be discussed during
this meeting.
Pam Little from Ali Baba and
GNSO member presented an overview of
the Expedited Policy Development Process (EPDP), highlighting the
approach, timelines, priority items in the phase 2 process. Cheryl Langdon Orr,
ALAC Liaison to GNSO shared her
concern about the lack of proportionate representation of end users and other
communities in the process.
Justine Chew, APRALO
Individual member provided an overview of the Subsequent
Procedure, the process, the work tracks and the discussions therein.
Remarking on the debate of whether there should be another round of gTLD
auction or not. Little advised on waiting to see how the community responded to
it in the policy development process.
Rahul Gossain,
Director, Ministry of Electronics and IT,
Government of India and GAC Representative
updating on the developments of the Dot Amazon case where the ICANN Board has
approved the domain name but five Andean Presidents have opposed
this decision, also highlighted the impact of the case on future Issues
Satish Babu, APRALO Chair, shared an
overview of the evolving ICANN Multistakeholder model, outlining the list of
issues, and the ALAC perspective on the key issues
Dr. Ajay Data, Chairman, Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) shared in brief the
current focus and initiatives of the group to make domain names universally
accepted.

How to join a working group,
contribute to ICANN community and get updates of the policy development process
were the other questions raised by participants.

also requested by participants with updates from the technical communities.
