Hi Satish,

Again, I understand the context of and need for due diligence.

Perhaps in moving forward with framing the rules pertaining to individual membership applications, there be further consideration for a solution to Raj's question about verification -- asking the applicant himself/herself for clarification on the issue of membership in an affiliated ALS isn't strictly due diligence. Due diligence should ideally be something that can be carried out without the intervention of the applicant.

On that note, I bid you a good night.

Thanks Justine.

There is a due diligence process for all applications, ALS or individual member. However, for individual members, we tend to go ahead based on the self-declaration in order to make it a light-weight process.

As discussed in the GA, we will shortly be framing rules for all aspects of individual membership. The rigour of the due diligence process is something that we can consider while framing the rules.

I understand and agree with you conceptually. However my question points to a step in the application process as opposed to the further clarification requested in evaluating an (incomplete?) application, which is what appears to have happened with Buddha.

Justine,

That is the same self-declaration that I was referring to.

So I wonder out loud what is the process to ensure that an individual applicant is not already a member via an ALS?
This could get messy as one could belong to one of many ALS’ - like I do for example. Sometimes hard to track, be aware of.

Hi Evin,

I may be being a bit pedantic here, but your question to Buddha is not phrased correctly.
You ask:
Are you currently a member of an ISOC or At-Large Structure (ALS)?”

ISOC is not an ALS. Individual ISOC chapters in their own right (and only some, not all) are.

Dear Buddha,

Thank you for informing us. Unfortunately, this disqualifies you from APRALO Individual Membership.

If you become unaffiliated with the ALS in the future, please feel free to re-apply for individual membership.

In the meantime, we look forward to engaging you further within APRALO.

Kind Regards,

Evin

Are you currently a member of an ISOC or At-Large Structure (ALS)?

Only Individuals without ALS affiliation are allowed to apply as Individual Members. Please let us know as soon as possible.

Thanks Rajnesh.

The current mechanism is a self-declaration by the applicant. We have been finding that this doesn't always work. As you have pointed out, it is not always easy to keep track of the affiliations of organizations that a person is a member of. We will consider revising the wording or providing an example.
