Coleauges,
I
am on this years NomCom, selected by our ALAC.
Thank you Hong for your time drafting our statement
as discussed in the LA ICANN meeting. From my recollections, it appears to
accurately reflect our discussion of our APRALO meeting that had very little
member participation, although we scheduled the meeting to be very late to
accommodate A/P time.
Perhaps the
statement could be more powerful with some of the statistical facts that were
discussed in LA regarding the A/P population, cultures, languages spoken etc.
Unfortunately I do not have access to my notes from the
evening.
I think the recent NomCom review has highlighted
past issues which are being taken into serious consideration.
I agree with Adam, that we should promote
from our region, but we should also make our
co0ncerns heard to NomCom and even the board for a possible region review (as
was informally mentioned at Bali). If need be, we shoulder tap suitable
candidates to put their names forward.
Some of our cultures prevent us from putting our names forward without an
invitation or suggestion and the current process
of not informing unsuccessful candidates creates another barrier. But the more
candidates we have, the more likely it is we will have the maximum board
members.
Regards,
Karaitiana
