Dear Gunela Thank you for nominating me for the position of NomCom delegate for APRALO. Here is my statement of interest. In light of the fact that I am now in my 10th year on the ALAC, I think it is appropriate that I step down and give others a chance to support the voice of end-users from APRALO in our community's high level forum. At the same time, I wish to continue to work in the interests of our region in some way. Of the options that are available, this position is one area at ground level, where I believe I can contribute my knowledge and experience of the work of At-Large and our region, to the wider scope of our work within ICANN. Thank you to the APRALO community for your continued support during my term on the ALAC and for enabling me to serve as the ALAC Chair from our region. It is significant that the two women Chairs of the ALAC have come from different backgrounds and cultures within the AP region. I believe that this is because as a RALO, we all continually embrace and celebrate the diversity of our community which also bonds us. On the NomCom, we have the potential to infiltrate this strength into the ICANN community. 😊 Regards Maureen On Mon, Apr 17, 2023 at 7:46 PM Gunela Astbrink via APAC-Discuss < apac-discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org> wrote:

Dear Holly, Many thanks for nominating me to the ALAC position. I accept the nomination. Here is my brief statement of interest: I am passionate to work for the interests of the end-users (especially from APRALO region) within the remit of iCANN, and have a strong interest in policy matters. In the past two years as an ALAC member selected by Nomcom, I have been playing my role to represent the end-user perspective on issues related to ICANN in policy matters, and I would like to continue doing that. I have also been playing my part in the Capacity Building, and O/E matters. I have learnt a lot in the past two years as an ALAC member and I believe I can be more productive if I take this role. Thank you very much, Shah. I have been with APRALO for many years and participated in cross-community working groups and other groups over that time. ATLAS III was most beneficial in honing leadership skills. This past year I've appreciated the opportunity to take on a one-year term as Vice-Chair, participated in many activities and I welcome the chance to continue this work. Another wise and easy-to-support nomination Gunela, for those of us who have had the pleasure of working with Shah in not only our RALO and At-Large, but also the wider Internet Governance and associated I* community will see how his clear commitment to balanced and thoughtful representation in the roles he undertakes would serve our RALO well within the ALAC, and going forward I doubt he would ever consider any drop from his other contributions in those current commitments, but rather complement them... *IMPORTANT: Criteria for NomCom Delegates*
Specific criteria and requirements regarding the NomCom composition and NomCom delegates are outlined in the ICANN Bylaws in Article 8 <https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/governance/bylaws-en/#article8>.
Please read the Job Description for NomCom Delegates <https://community.icann.org/download/attachments/231375118/2024%20NomCom%20J...>. Additionally, please note the following as you select and appoint your delegate to the 2024 NomCom:
- Ineligibility for Service – Current or future ICANN employees or paid ICANN consultants (including Ombudsman) are excluded from consideration for eligibility as described in Article 8, Section 8.9 of ICANN’s Bylaws <https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/governance/bylaws-en/#article8>. - The ICANN community is diverse and the composition of the NomCom should reflect this in order to fulfill its mission. - NomCom delegates should have a high-level network of contacts essential to candidate recruitment. - The delegate should be able to join monthly teleconferences. Note that the NomCom's workload *will increase* significantly during the candidate assessment process. Conference calls are held more frequently during this time as well (typically weekly and the duration of the calls may last up to three hours). - All NomCom delegates should have the ability to travel to and participate in ICANN Public meetings and NomCom meetings when requested (travel and hotel accommodations will be provided for all approved meetings). If travel is restricted, then NomCom delegates will meet virtually.
*IMPORTANT: RALOs may recommend one or more candidates to the ALAC. The appointment of NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC. Therefore, RALO recommendations are not binding.*
