APRALO Showcase Call for Participation
Dear Colleagues, At APRALO meeting on March 15, 2011, a number of action items have been set out. The minutes and action items will be circulated by the Secretariat soon. There is one action that is pretty pressing. As all four RALOs did at ICANN meetings in the respective regions, APRALO is going to organize a Showcase at ICANN Singapore Meeting in June 2011, which will be a very important outreach to AP Region and the whole ICANN community. Given the importance of the event, one organization committee will be set up. All the members of APRALO is strongly encouraged to participate in organization. A member ALS that is interested in joining the organization committee should send an email to the list stating: ALS Name, Contact Person and Responsible Areas in the organization. All the members of the committee must be responsible for the following one or more areas: a) Budget planning b) Program setting c) Outreach/in-reach d) Logistic support (liaison with staff) e) Financial support (seeking sponsorship) The committee should select a Chair to report to APRALO monthly (March to June). Dear All, So far I only heard on the list from Ms. Vandanya, who is not affiliated with any ALS in APRALO, that she would like volunteer to join the Committee. I'm surprised by the low interest in the community on such an important issue. One inspiring news is that Prof. Ang Peng Hwa, a professor of Singapore Nanyang Technology University, member of UN WGIG and leading expert on IG from AP region, has kindly agreed to reschedule his busy trip to be able to join us at the Showcase. Hi Hong, I did initiate discussions with potential sponsors in SF. I had also read the message and as I returned on the 24th, I am amidst a bit of work and tending to some family related things and am on the same page with you. AT the moment we may want to address the following issue: 1. Do all ALS's know what an APRALO ALS Showcase is? We should send out a small brief about the showcase. 2. Date and time slot for the Showcase. 3. Keynote Speaker: are the possible names well known throughout the APRALO community or should we only opt for a speaker known to one part of the community? Thanks for the messages from both Vice Chairs, which are no doubt most valuable. Since my term as the Chair will expire on or before June 1, 2011 and it should be the new Chair elected to be at the Showcase , it would be most appropriate for the two Vice Chairs to take over the whole organization issues from me right now and lead the Organization Committee. Therefore, they would take actions as stated in their messages. I wish all the ALS cordially support both VCs to ensure the huge success of the event. My own suggestions have all been presented on the list. It is all up to the community to decide whether to accept. We will still need the leadership of the chair and I think it is to the benefit of the whole apralo community to continue to have Hong's active participation, and I hope sincerely that Hong will consider again to continue her service as chair, for the great leadership she has provided and for the best continuity of apralo altogether!! Thank you, Charles. I had made very clear, when accepting the temporary caretaker role at APRALO Extraordinary Meeting in Brussels June 2010, that I shall hand over the job immediately after a new Chair was elected. I was only tasked to complete the remaining term of the ex-Chair who was elected in March 2009. I shall keep my promise strictly that I will NOT run for another term. I sincerely wish a new leader would be selected as early as possible. This is a public call for interest to this important public service opportunity in APRALO. Dear Hong and Charles, Provided the current situation of electing leadership, should Hong deem it necessary at this point, should we revisit the options for conducting elections and/or smooth transition? I believe the AP region has an important role to play for the APRALO showcase and if we create a process that can conclude well before the June meeting, we might be in a position to carry out smooth functioning and carrying out the required activities. I had made very clear, when accepting the temporary caretaker role at APRALO Extraordinary Meeting in Brussels June 2010, that I shall hand over the job immediately after a new Chair was elected. I was only tasked to complete the remaining term of the ex-Chair who was elected in March 2009. I shall keep my promise strictly that I will NOT run for another term.
I sincerely wish a new leader would be selected as early as possible. This is a public call for interest to this important public service opportunity in APRALO.

Since my term as the Chair will expire on or before June 1, 2011 and it should be the new Chair elected to be at the Showcase , it would be most appropriate for the two Vice Chairs to take over the whole organization issues from me right now and lead the Organization Committee. Therefore, they would take actions as stated in their messages. I wish all the ALS cordially support both VCs to ensure the huge success of the event.
My own suggestions have all been presented on the list. It is all up to the community to decide whether to accept. I hope we keep the whole process, from the beginning to the end, completely transparent.

At APRALO meeting on March 15, 2011, a number of action items have been set out. The minutes and action items will be circulated by the Secretariat soon.
There is one action that is pretty pressing. As all four RALOs did at ICANN meetings in the respective regions, APRALO is going to organize a Showcase at ICANN Singapore Meeting in June 2011, which will be a very important outreach to AP Region and the whole ICANN community.
Given the importance of the event, one organization committee will be set up. All the members of APRALO is strongly encouraged to participate in organization. A member ALS that is interested in joining the organization committee should send an email to the list stating:
ALS Name, Contact Person and Responsible Areas in the organization.
All the members of the committee must be responsible for the following one or more areas:
a) Budget planning
b) Program setting
c) Outreach/in-reach
d) Logistic support (liaison with staff)
e) Financial support (seeking sponsorship)
The committee should select a Chair to report to APRALO monthly (March to June).
