Sorry for I missed the conf call yesterday. Actually I tried to log-in from Warsaw, the hotel phone system had trobule when I entered the pass code. Thne I used the Skype, but again it didn't work, then my time ran out. Sorry. Now, as some of you are well aware of, ICANN "regional" meeting is announced to be held in Taipei in Oct 19-21, just a two weeks before ICANN LA meeting. And, in February, there will be ICANN meeting in New Dehli. This poses significant challenge to many AtLarge members from our own region. We are not at all consulted with this "regional" meeting even though AP-RALO is the legitimate regional component of ICANN as you all agree. AND, as ICANN deferred the scheduled ICANN meeting in our region from October 2007 into Feb 2008, which clashes almost with APRICOT in Taipei which was fixed and announced well before the ICANN decision of postponing. I don't want to be a usual complainer, rather tant to be more positive. BUT, this is not the positive way we like, after establishing the APRALO in the region, we are constantly ignored... There is a suggestion from our Board Liaison, to try to write a formal letter from ALAC asking for clarification, at least, and reminding the importance of open consultation process etc. Unfortunately, I am on the road now and may not have sufficient time to spend to write the draft from APRALO, could there be someone who could do that? With gentle language but firm content. thanks, izumi 2007/9/26, Cheryl Langdon-Orr <cheryl@hovtek.com.au>:
OK thanks for that Adam we will ensure that this is incorporated into the meeting note/minutes... CLO

I had hoped to join this call, but a rescheduled meeting means I'll likely miss it.
Couple of things: Next APTLD meeting, Bangkok, October 24-25, program available <http://www.aptld.org/bangkokOctober2007/APTLD%20BKK%20Program%20v%201.2.pdf
IGF -- saw it on the agenda and as a member of the IGF advisory group this is what I thought I might be able to provide info about/answer questions about. IGF will start in seven weeks: 12-15 November (Rio). Only now getting down to business of speaker selection for the main sessions, rather late (mainly due to the late appointment of the advisory group by the secretary general.)
Sessions are:
Critical Internet Resources Access Diversity Openness Security Taking Stock and the way forward Emerging Issues
Details of the topics suggested to be discussed under these themes available in a draft programme <http://www.intgovforum.org/Rio_Meeting/DraftProgramme.24.09.2007.rtf> (last updated Sept 24, so is current.)
Possible speakers have been recommended by various stakeholder groups, including recommendations submitted by individuals (inc self recommendations). Not many people from the Asia Pacific region have been recommended, and very few women. Other than this problem the pool of potential speakers is pretty good. Seven weeks away, so there is very little time to suggest new people, unless you know people who will be in Rio it is probably not worth suggesting new names now. Sorry, I realize it's probably frustrating to hear this kind of comment.
Perhaps of interest to ALAC, there will be a "Meeting Point/Village Square" area where people can set up a table (posters, etc) to showcase their activities. May be worth finding out what ICANN is planning and whether ALAC can be part of any ICANN space.
More information on the IGF website <http://www.intgovforum.org/>
Last - ICANN NomCom. Has the AP RALO selected its delegate for the 2008 NomCom? Time is running out, the person has to be able to get to LA, that means having flights arranged, perhaps a visa, etc.
Thanks,
Adam
