Re: [APAC-Discuss] [At-Large] ICANN68 to be a virtual meeting
Dear Maureen and all, On behalf of the ICANN68 host committee, I respect and understand this decision, although (and, honestly) it's a difficult one for us to accept. We understand the decision was ultimately made that prioritises the health and safety of our ICANN community, the international guests travelling to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and, most importantly, mitigates the risk of spreading the Covid-19. Our sympathies at this time are with those affected by Covid-19 all around the world. We hope ICANN would consider Kuala Lumpur again as host of ICANN meeting in the future. Thank you, Kind regards, Suhaidi Hassan ISOC Malaysia Chapter
Dear Suhaidi and the ICANN68 host committee, It is very disappointing for you after immense work to not be able to host ICANN68 in Kuala Lumpur. Now that all the preliminary work has been done, let's hope that KL will have an opportunity to host in future. To respect our region, I am keen for the virtual meeting to be in the local timezone just as ICANN67 was in Cancun time. Kind regards, Gunela Suhaidi Hassan wrote on 10/04/2020 11:02 :

In consideration to the present situation It's a good decision indeed but parallaly it is disappointing to Suhaidi and their team as organizing committee.Expecting ICANN would consider one of the future ICANN meeting at KL. Stay indoors and be safe. Regards, Priyatosh On Fri, Apr 10, 2020, 6:33 AM Suhaidi Hassan <suhaidi.hassan.my@gmail.com> wrote:

Dear Suhaidi Hassan, I empathize with you and your team who must have been working tirelessly to make ICANN68 happen in Kaulalumpur. Thinking Aloud: There is a wonderful governing principle called the Principle of Subsidiarity. Simply stated: "Problems should be solved at the smallest and most intimate level possible". There is no better method than physical conference to assure this in a given local or regional level of governance. I suggest that the option of hosting the physical meeting of ICANN68 at a later date in kaulalumpur may please be explored. A simple case: When one takes the virtual conference presentation, it is difficult to spot and nurture the next level of leadership or expertise. In any case, the entire world is reconciled to the postponement of many planned conferences. Over to your ICANN68 team.
