Hi Holly. *On New Budget Request for FY14* My position on APrIGF is that if the community wants it and if there is a "champion" willing to do the work in drafting a proposal and shepherding it through the ICANN processes while meeting all the deadlines, then I think you should proceed with a request. Note that based on precedence, any funding support (if at all) is likely to be partial. *APRALO Workshop @ IGF Bali* I believe I saw a document from ICANN Finance on the Fast Track budget requests where APRALO's request for the IGF in Bali will be given partial support (i.e, support for 3 people). This is of course not ideal, but after the success of our Policy Roundtable in Beijing, the ICANN IDN VIP Team is interested in collaborating with us on a joint workshop at IGF - they had fielded a proposal on a similar topic to the IGF. If we collaborate, I think the funding issue can be addressed fully - I will get confirmation on this. I am in the midst of revising the workshop proposal and design for the IGF based on the experience in Beijing. I think the number of role players can be reduced to 6 and have received good feedback on suitable experts for the panel. I will float the revised proposal when ready and I am mindful that the IGF deadline for the full proposal is 30 April. Not sure if ICANN will fund the WS organizers or speakers/panelists. At the roundtable, actually most speakers were from the other SGs and had the other sources for funding. APRALO may wish to priorize its own members that have no other means to come to IGF. On Fri, Apr 19, 2013 at 11:49 AM, Rinalia Abdul Rahim < rinalia.abdulrahim@gmail.com> wrote:

Dear Holly and Rinalia, I completely support both APrIGF and IGF participation. It is important that the user views are represented as well as shared through deliberations at these important policy dialogue venues. Not only should APRALO be represented in these foras, we should also ensure that we are present in other venues as the AP star, APNIC and RipeNCC activities because we span Asia, Asia Pacific, Middle East etc. I agree that we have challenges to proposal development but it is to be recognized that there is a ICANN Middle East and Adjoining Countries strategy and the user view has been well represented there with a number of APRALO members participating in the wg. Hi Fouad, I agree that participation is indeed important. To make it happen we need members of the community to volunteer and take the lead/initiative in developing proposals and to submit funding requests. The requirement is that every funding request has to meet the criteria set by the funder. If APRALO members know other sources of possible funding to enable participation at key events, please do share and let Holly know. In the meantime, if anyone wants to volunteer for drafting funding proposals please let Holly know as well. Time is running short on the ICANN proposal. Hi Hong. Funding support for 3 workshop role players is to my knowledge already confirmed. I will know in a few days if the full panel can be covered through collaboration with the ICANN VIP Team. Based on last year's experience, ICANN support can only be used to support role players for approved workshops. In the case of the IDN workshop, the focus is still awareness raising about the Root LGR process and implications for language communities. This means the role players need to have script expertise and understand the Root LGR process. More specifically, we will be focusing on scripts that are shared across languages because of the potential disputes that may come about (eg, 1 Han script expert to cover CJK, 1 Arabic script expert to cover usage in both middle eastern and asian context, 1 Indic expert to cover the South Asian languages, etc). If there are community members who have such expertise, they should let me know so that their names can be gathered and considered for participation whether in person or via remote participation.
