Proposal for APRALO Extraterritorial Legislation WG
Dear APRALO members, On behalf of Yeseul Kim, kindly find attached the document “Proposal for APRALO Extraterritorial Legislation WG” for your consideration. Thank you! Kind regards, Silvia Silvia Vivanco Senior Manager, At-Large Regional Affairs Policy Development and At-Large Relations Tel: +51-997510935
I think this is an interesting paper to draw attention to the impacts of international legislation related to internet use on APRALO end-users in the Asia Pacific region. However, while not directly related to ICANN"s mission, it is still a good paper to draw member attention to issues that ICANN is currently addressing eg data protection and how it impacts on domain name use and registrants as a specific group of end-users. Thanks Maureen. Regulations with extra-territorial jurisdiction impose a significant burden on compliance on businesses, and GDPR, with its sweeping coverage, provided a good example. The issue is compounded when businesses have to simultaneously comply to multiple laws that may have conflicting requirements. With topics such as data sovereignty, data protection and cross-border data flows assuming importance in different parts of the region, APRALO considers it useful to document and analyze the status of such legislation within the APAC region. Consequently, we were happy to support Yeseul when she proposed such an initiative. We will be shortly calling for members to this WG, and once the members have joined, we will be discussing the terms of reference (such as the mandate/remit, term and outcomes) of the WG with them. I'd like to request anyone interested in the topic to join the effort. With kind regards, satish On Sat, Aug 24, 2019 at 3:40 AM Maureen Hilyard <maureen.hilyard@gmail.com> wrote:

Yes it's a great idea and topic to start discussing about such topics which has a crosscutting effects and are overarching at national and regional level. A great start indeed to talk about such issues. Shreedeep On Sat, Aug 24, 2019, 9:31 AM Satish Babu via APAC-Discuss < apac-discuss@atlarge-lists.icann.org> wrote:
