Re: [APAC-Discuss] Draft Statement on NomCom Review
Sorry for I missed the LA APRALO meeting physically since I was flying back from LA to Tokyo at that time. I don't see there is any "blame" in the comments from both Bilal and Adam. What the statement tried was to ask for more attention to regional diversity, I understand, Since ICANN region of Asia/Pacific/Australia is so vastly large, it is very difficult for someone in a corner of the region to feel "represented" unless someone close form that subregion is selected. And unfortunately, Australia/New Zealand region is often perceived as more of "West" than Asia. Should we propose to have more attention be paid to these sub-regional balance? izumi 2008/1/1, Adam Peake <ajp@glocom.ac.jp>:
Hong,
Sorry if you thought my comments were blaming in anyway. Just trying to provide correct information and some background.
If the meeting was concerned that parts of the region had been poorly represented in ICANN then let the statement say that. It took a long time for anyone from Southern and South East Asia to be represented in any ICANN leadership position. Pacific still not been represented. Perhaps the statement could ask the NomCom to pay attention to these regions and invite contact from the NomCom with the APRALO throughout the process to help with outreach. (The meeting in Delhi would be a good opportunity to start such discussion. Recruitment for the 2008 NomCom --I'm not a member-- began on December 14 and will end on April 15.)
Best wishes to all for the (Gregorian :-)) New Year.
Adam

Nomcom Reviewcan be either a genuine process to listen to the people who were inarticulate or a sham tooffset publicoutcry.
Anyway, I'vefulfilled my share of responsibilityby timely and diligently drafting the statement according to therequirement of the Chair. Now we should expectthoseareblaming to draft a perfect one to replace this.
