1. I know Avri well enough to say she is in my list of people whom I will support as ALAC Board Candidate. 2. I understand that BCEC has spent many hours deliberating and evaluating different candidates (21 candidates as I was aware of). I haven't follow every detail of BCEC so I am not sure if they have been tasked to ensure regional and gender distribution of the board as part of their selection criteria. If they have, then I would support the petition as the candidate selections clear indicate a lack of balance. But if they are not tasked with that responsibility, then I would not. If we feel BCEC have done their job appropriately based on the requirements set prior, then it is likely the petition will not change the outcome, but would only extend the process further. -James Seng On Sun, Oct 31, 2010 at 9:34 AM, Fouad Bajwa <fouadbajwa@gmail.com> wrote:

I also join to support Avri, though it is a difficult question to me. Avri has been active from WSIS days, understands both tech and non-tech, civil society, end-user values, good trust from GA Chair and other activities. I know Alan and Sebastien well enough during my period at ALAC and am sure they are also excellent candidates, and they are all my good friends. At the end of the day, it is only one person to get selected. While it might be better to have regional balance, but selecting five from each region may not be the best way forward this time. If there are two seats available, then five may work better. my 2 cents izumi 2010/11/1 James Seng <james.seng@gmail.com>:

Just to be clear on the process Izumi the selection by At-Large from the slate will result in just 1 seat the new #15 created on the ICANN Board, Regional balance is not the issue fonding the best most suitable applicant that best fits the role and criteria established by the community is the aim.... Thank you Cheryl for your clarification. AND, actually it was also my understanding and the point trying to make, but not sufficient in my words. I am pretty clear that we will have only 1 seat for the Board, and what I meant about the regional balance is the composition of the slate, and even that, I meant just for one seat it does not make sense to discuss much about it, I mean three is a reasonable number. So in any case, I still am in favor of put Avri for our petition together with Alan and Sebastien. izumi 2010/11/1 Cheryl Langdon-Orr <langdonorr@gmail.com>:
