Hi Everyone As the email below suggests, there will be further discussion on our request (and those of others) for FY 2014. We (rather hurriedly) prepared one already in light of two considerations. The first is that, this year, ALAC will be making a submission for funding for an ALAC Summit for London in June 2014 - that is representatives from all the ALSs. In light of that, we were advised that it is advisable if we not request funding for a General Assembly for our region. However, there is still the possibility of funding for an IGF presence. So this submission was for just that - some assistance, plus travel to this year's IGF. And the topic is one that is particularly important to this regions - IDN/IDN variants. We will be holding an hour's session in Beijing on the topic - and already, the preparatory call for the session highlighted the many issues the topic raises. There will be another meeting of the finance subcommittee - and this is the application I will be discussing. So if any of you have feedback on how we can improve this submission let me know soon so I can reflect your input at the next meeting. Thanks HOlly Begin forwarded message:

Dear all,
since my last message, I have received feedback both on-list and off-list about opening a second submission round for requests for funding of activities that will take place after 1 November 2013. Since there appears to be support in several regions due to them being taken off-guard in the first round, I think it would make the regions happy to re-open for a second round, solely for "normal track requests", closing it in time for our next FBSC call.
At the moment, there is a little confusion re: the closing of the 2nd round. ICANN CFO Xavier Calvez alluded to 19th March whilst earlier documentation mentioned 29th March. I have sent an enquiry to the CFO. If the deadline is 29th March we'll submit a few days earlier & discuss all the requests during the call we'll have on the day determined by the Doodle Gisella sent recently. If the deadline is 19th, then we'll need to conduct an early appraisal -- perhaps just on-line or in a F2F + remote participation session in Beijing.
On Monday, Staff will send out an announcement to the RALO lists etc. about the opening of a normal track round. It is *really important* that you, members of the FBSC, let your RALO know this is happening.
Kind regards,
Olivier

But since some RALOs felt that the process wasn't clear enough, and said they missed the deadline because of that, Olivier asked us whether we think it's suitable to open a second round for the normal track (Deadline: 19 April I think).
But if the final decision is to open a second round, we need to inform the RALOs as soon as possible so that they can prepare their request on time for the ALAC Finance and Budget Sub-Committee to approve and to send to the controller before the deadline of 19 April.
