Wrong Context for Deciding How to Address EBW's Questions
Dear Tijani: I have read your response to JJS's query and would wish to provide a different context for applying whether the questions from EBW should command response. I seriously doubt if the case that "Eric is not an at-large member' is good and sufficient to ignore his questions. In fact that criteria is misplaced and fundamentally at odds with the conceptual underpinnings of the At-Large's in the ICANN community and the ALAC's role in ICANN operations and governance. The At-Large is recognized as the home of the ordinary internet user in the ICANN ecosystem. While we have embraced a certain organisational framework as a management tool, active participation of any internet user in ICANN policy development is the bottomline objective So long as Eric Brunner Williams is an internet enduser and while he remains within the framework of acceptable conduct established by the At-Large thru ALAC, there can be no other membership criteria for participation. You may use other [valid] criteria to reject broadcasting his questions. And candidates have an absolute right to ignore him and not answer, again for various and sundry reasons. But a status of membership or membership criteria may not be employed as disqualifiers. And I say this as one who has been unfairly maligned by the said Eric Brunner Williams. As Chair of NARALO I can confirm that Eric is a member of the ISOC SF In general I would rather not limit anyone's voice. HOWEVER, Eric's access to At-Large discussions has been suspended pending an apology requested by myself for making personal statements about members of the ICANN community which did not pertain to policy but were rather Ad Hominem. Dear Carlton, When Evan said Eric wasnt an At-Large member, I was so surprised because I know Eric very well, and he participated actively in the JAS WG. Moreover, he was supported by ICANN to go to the Cartagena Meeting. So, for me, he is an At-Large member, but needed to double check with the staff. As for his questions, this process is for selecting a Board Director by ALAC/At-Large. So At-Large members are encouraged to ask questions to candidates, and the whole thing is the definition of the At-Large members. And I say this as one who has been unfairly maligned by the said Eric Brunner Williams.

This Workspace will serve as the mechanism for the At-Large community to ask questions to the 2014 Board Director Candidates and for the Candidates to reply to the questions.
