Name collisions occur when a domain used in the global DNS namespace is also used in a different namespace (e.g., private enterprise), where users, software, or other functions may misinterpret it. Imagine encountering the same name used for different purposes – that's a name collision in the DNS. The Name Collision Analysis Project (NCAP) Discussion Group embarked on a series of studies and research projects centered on the critical issues surrounding name collisions. The NCAP Discussion Group presents its research, findings, and guidance for addressing name collisions in the NCAP Study 2 report. The Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) subsequently endorsed the NCAP Discussion Group’s findings and urged the ICANN Board to adopt the recommendations within the report.
