Dear all, The nomination period for the position of ALAC representative, which ended on October 5th resulted in three candidates running for this position: * Sivasubramanian Muthusamy, President at ISOC India Chennai and CEO at Turiya * Dr.V.C.Vivekanandan, HRD IP Chair Professor & Head-Centre for IPLaw studies * Prof. Ming-Cheng Laing of ISOC-TW The online election for the open ALAC seat will now start for a period of seven days, which ends on 20 October at 2359 UTC. The election will be conducted online via the BigPulse voting system. The authorized ALS representatives will shortly receive a separate Email with their voting credentials and a link to the election interface. It was decided by the vice Chair Karaitiana Taiuru that this will be a preference election, meaning that you choose by preference between the three candidates. You will be asked to do the following: "Please vote for candidates in order of preference with 1 (the first click made) being your first choice, 2 your second and 3 your third." The preference numbers placed on each candidate are added to produce a total vote score for each placard. The candidate with the lowest scores is treated as the winner of this election. You can click on the names of the candidates to review their biography. Further, the APRALO officers decided to use this opportunity to get in touch with your ALS and produced a series of questions related to ALS participation in APRALO. You will shortly receive an email with your voting credentials and a link to the first of a total of 10 questions. Once you are finished with the questionnaire, you will automatically be guided to the ALAC election. Feel free to contact the Staff if you have questions. The following ALSes will receive their credentials shortly. They each have one vote in this election. Hello Kuo-Wei Wu, Hello All, I am one of the nominees of APRALO to ALAC, writing to say that I am committed to the At Large values and would contribute to the at-Large programs and activities irrespective of the choice of APRALO members from among the nominees, all of whom are well qualified for this position. I am inclined to be quite involved in this role. For a start, I will be attentive to the discussions in the list on current issues and contribute actively to the process of arriving at at-large position on ICANN and other Internet Governance issues. If there is any official travel requirement I will set aside time to travel and participate in at-large and ICANN meetings as part of the official team. I would be present at the IGF Hyderabad and will actively participate in discussions of importance as a person committed to the Internet Model and Civil Society values. I have a keen interest in participating to further the process of democratization of ICANN Governance which is also a symbolic issue that would determine how the Internet would be 'governed' broadly. I am now based in India and willing to devote time and work on strengthening the at-large structures and to further at-large participation in ICANN policy making and related issues. The At Large Organization is becoming larger with inclusion of new At Large Structures. The participation needs to be improved as well as the voices expressed need to be taken serious note of by ICANN. I am eager to work on this core task of At Large expansion as a loud and clear Civil Society Voice in Internet Governance. At a global level by working closely with the AT Large Executive and at a local level by creating greater awareness about the relevance and significance of At Large. I will do all this in constant consultation with those who are steeped in the at-large values. Thank you Sivasubramanian Muthusamy http://isocmadras.blogspot.com -- http://www.linkedin.com/in/sivasubramanianmuthusamy On Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 9:34 AM, Kuo-Wei Wu <kww9@columbia.edu> wrote:
