An old Portuguese prayer says:

What do you want the coming year to bring you?

Nothing, I don’t want it to bring me anything.

The only thing I want is that it does not take anything away!!

That it does not take the roof that shelters me, the plate that feeds me, the blanket that warms me, the light that guides me, the smiles of my loved ones, health as a treasure, work as my livelihood, the warmth of my friends, companionship, hugs, and kisses!

That it does not take away dreams, nor the pieces of hearts made of people that I carry within me.
