I Just got a message from one member of the board that is already there in LA here what he says ( Steve Crocker) :

Although the fires in the Los Angeles area are indeed severe, let add for the people who are not familiar with Los Angeles that neither the Los Angeles airport (LAX) nor the meeting hotel are affected. I'm a native of L.A. and I'm already in L.A. for a few days before the meeting.

It will be posted reassuring this. I'm taking the opportunity to send this quickly before the full posting hits the web site.

There are a lot of people dislocated temporarily, and there will be a substantial number of homes lost in the fires, but everything is pretty orderly around the west side of Los Angeles.

No one should have any hesitation about coming to the meeting.

I wouldn't expect the meeting to be disrupted in any significant way.

airport you are just a few blocks from the hotel. It is an easy

shuttle ride to the venue. According to the ICANN website, "There are

free shuttle buses to the hotel from the airport 24 hours and every

15 minutes (the buses are light blue and labelled "Hilton LAX")."

Visitors should know, however, that the air here is particularly

unhealthful right now. I live about 30 kilometers from the closest

fire, yet the sky is blocked out by smoke. (My children's soccer

games gave been cancelled due to poor air quality.) If you have

respiratory issues, you might decide to participate remotely, or just

stay indoors during the meeting, but otherwise the areas around the

airport shouldn't be significantly disrupted.

The hot dry winds are expected to end this evening, so I would expect

clearer skies by the time people begin arriving on Saturday.
