Capacity Building WG - back to track
Dear Jonathan, community, I would like to initiate the renewal of the Capacity Building WG. We have a successful experience, excellent reviews and results (of course participation metrics - we all love metrics), and have been trying to come back to this activity for years (since Hamburg ICANN meeting in November 2023 and earlier - we suggested it with Hadia and had community support). Capacity Building work is a great community mobilization way, as well as strong support for important and complex topics (technological, cybersec, Consolidated Policy, broader ICANN topics to explain with the participation of other ICANN groups - too) is a great way to go. It might help our newcomers to be engaged, be aware, for our experts - to be useful with priceless expertise. If we are not sure it`s needed, we should organise the poll and ask the community about it. I see it as a simple way to use bottom up mode to start or close some processes inside At-Large - Technology Task Force WG, Outreach and Engagement coordinated work, setting up any Subcommittees etc - the way when the community has a decision together with a link to the community opinion - synergy has proven effectiveness. I did not add in the copy of this email Maureen, Hadia, Joanna, Alfredo, Maria - I remember this wonderful team lead the CBWG, but hope some may put comments to my suggestion, as well as other respected community members and leaders. Dear Abdulkarim, colleagues, Thank you for your support, which is expressed both inside and outside the mailing list. I want to emphasize the importance of the idea if we want to continue discussing it: - The CB is aimed at raising awareness of volunteers primarily as policy makers, the topics have the focus of the ICANN framework, difficult topics and aspects. Let's say truth: policy development requires a lot of knowledge, and the format of its clear presentation is extremely important. - It is not suggested to duplicate processes. Duplicate structures too – no needed. Any work begins with analyzing existing assets and using current opportunities to improve them and add missing elements. CB is such an element. - The existing excellent passive asset of knowledge (libraries, online learning courses, playbook) must necessarily be added in an active and interactive format. - There are many of us volunteers, everyone has a source of knowledge, and attracting volunteers for CB is one of the tasks. As usual from my humble Euralo side I would suggest to care about mobilizing, engagement of all community. We talk about engagement metrics all the time, but we don't audit our daily work, we don't look for solutions to problems. We don't look at the structure of working *together*. If this is not done, we will remain in a community where 5% of permanent committed activists work. Let's prepare and train new ones? ___ Best regards, Natalia Filina +7 906 722 5461 Moscow, Russia пт, 2 мая 2025 г. в 14:05, Abdulkarim Oloyede <oloyede.aa@unilorin.edu.ng>:
