Dear All, having served on the ICANN Board (where I was instrumental in the establishment of Seat 15), on ALAC, and as a current member of the EURALO Individuals’ Association writing here in a private capacity, I would like to offer the following remarks: 1) A petition to add one or several names to the list would require to prove that:     - the criteria established by the BCEC were inadequate,     - and/or they were not respected in establishing the BCEC Slate of Candidates,     - and/or one or more candidates on that Slate was/were suddently discovered to have interests, actions or behaviour deemed incompatible with the criteria, or with the expected standards in ICANN. 2) Calling for a petition also calls into question the effectiveness of the ALAC body entrusted with the pre-selection of candidates for Seat 15. And for an external observer, less familiar with the workings of ICANN and ALAC, calling for a petition might even suggest incompetence or bias. It is in the obvious interest of ICANN and ALAC to avoid any such impression. 3) In the specific case of the petition recently issued, one cannot but observe that the initiative originated in, and was supported by parties with some affiliation or relation to a candidate who was unsuccessful in the agreed selection process. It is not in the interests of ICANN or ALAC to be susceptible to pressures or influences in such a manner. Finally, the above remarks are not aimed at any individual, but simply call for the strict observance of principles. This is essential in our efforts to maintain and, if possible, enhance the role of the global Internet user community in ICANN. Best regards, Jean-Jacques. The BMSPC will announce the planned interactions in due course.     In accordance with the selection timeline, the first round of voting in the final election will be initiated on Tuesday, 21 February 2017.
