Policy matters for conference call agenda
I added some of the policy issues to our Mar 6 agenda. <https://st.icann.org/alac/index.cgi?6_march_2007> (It's a wiki, so feel free to add, subtract, or rearrange.) I propose that we run through these with no more than a couple minutes each, to see where we want to generate input and of what sort. Policy Matters for Discussion 1. Domain Tasting: Update from Nick on Issues Report, start a PDP already (ws suggests) 2. Registerfly situation: ICANN's non-enforcement of its contracts and what that means to the public as third-party beneficiary (even if such status is disclaimed in the contracts) 3. gTLDs. Yes, .xxx is up for discussion again; does the GAC want veto rights over new TLD strings? 4. IDNs. Why can't domain re-sellers participate in the IDN process? 5. LSE's GNSO review and upcoming ALAC review. Yet Another ICANN Reform Process? --Wendy -- Wendy Seltzer -- wendy@seltzer.org Visiting Assistant Professor of Law, Brooklyn Law School Fellow, Berkman Center for Internet & Society http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/seltzer.html http://www.chillingeffects.org/
Just a short comment on item #4 since I won't be able to participate in the phone conference: There's been some controversy about this recently(alluded to in the message of Roberto - suggesting it could be taken to the Ombudsman). A Russian and an Iranian reseller applied for Business Constituency membership in order to participate in IDN Working Group but were turned down. Both were granted 'observership' status on WG thanks to efforts by Sophia Bekele. On Sophia's suggestion I asked Michael Palage about what Constituency such applicants belong to and I'm awaiting his answer. Siavash

Per the state of interests from Russian reseller, it seems it belongs to business constituency. I haven't seen the SoI from Iranian reseller. Hong

Might I suggest that a budget update item be added to the agenda. My reasoning is that, for transparency purposes, it would be a good to know what the current balance of the alac budget is, and what planning needs to be started for the next fiscal cycle. regards Robert On 4-Mar-07, at 6:03 PM, Wendy Seltzer wrote:

Thanks Robert, It's on the agenda, and I'll do my part to make sure we get to it and get information to the at-large public. --Wendy Robert Guerra wrote:
