Re: [At-Large] FW: ICANN Multilingualism and Information Usage Survey
Dear All, I just answered the Survey, and wanted to make a public comment, but there is no more ANY ICANN place one can write: * Icann Blog http://blog.icann.org/ is for Some-Selected-People only, * Public Comments http://www.icann.org/public_comment/ are Forum-By-Topic, and this survey is not classified as a public comment topic. My apologies I use At Large list - actually I do not know, and could not figure out if I fit here by some rule, or I am just tolerated here. If At Large is not a place I fit in, what is the right place for me ? The place I can meet ICANN's participants from the whole world ? My comment about the Survey is following: when I answer ANY survey, I like to receive an email copy of what I actually wrote. It seems to me as a basic fairness, especially when the Survey states up front that all answers are publics for some people (not only the company making survey). Kind regards, Elisabeth Porteneuve

Elisabeth, france@large (inititally incorporated in 2000 with the French candidates to the BoD to support the French @large community) is the oldest @large organisation. At the occasion of ICANN coming in Paris we decided to help people better knowing ICANN - don't they spend a lot of money touring the world just for local communities to know them better?. - we initiated the World Internet Week de Paris. http://wiw.de-paris.info - we applied to the ALAC. http://alfrance.info/index.php?title=ALAC - we launched the http://atlax.org project to man a table at the ICANN meeting where every French Internet Governance related organisation could have a short documentation on the way they do/could harmonize with ICANN. - we took a lead in the http://afgi.org and the preparation of the French Internet Governance Forum. - we initiated some reflection on sociolinguistic DNS projects and multilingualistics and reached a modus vivendi with Vint Cerf and the IETF/WG-IDNABIS over IDNA/ML-DNS (http://ml-dns.org), so we will be able to progress in Paris. Unfortunately, as you note it, it seems there is no more room for us. The real fun is the reasons they found, pretending the Staff is responsible for the blunder. Staff did not find us on line, looking where we are not! And you know what? We are not independent since our secretariat, hosting and domain names are sponsored by the same organisation as other projects we cooperate with !!! (or possibly conflict :-)!) Apalling. There are two active @large organisations in France to welcome ICANN : - ISOC France. They are an ALS. But we know the situation which developped there since the ICANN meeting was announced. - france@large. We will not be able to present a candidate to the Euralo. We will not be in a position to vote at the Euralo meeting. Would you be right? Would there be no more room for the French @large people to meet ICANN's participants from the whole world? I am sure some people on this list will come with some ideas. May be Kieren would like to share with france@large's press file at the occasion of the World Internet Week de Paris? May-be Wolf will eventually explain? May be Danny will want to give a NY ISOC Chapter hand to the French one to organise an ATLAX get-together. Will you be in Paris Danny? jfc
