Cairo - Meeting with Local Internet Users
I would like to plan a variety of formal and informal meetings at the Cairo meeting so that those participating at the ICANN meeting can get to know more about Cairo, and the state of the internet in Egypt. As I mentioned before, I believe that pro-active measures should be taken to actively engage and get to know the internet user community where the ICANN meeting is taking place. The goal, to not only enhance participation and engagement of users throughout the world with ICANN but also to promote understanding of ICANN issues, as well as promote solidarity of issues being face by internet users where the meeting is taking place. A couple of ideas come to mind: 1. Buddy system - Pairing up ICANN attendees where ICANNwith local internet users/experts/bloggers. That way the local can share their knowledge on and about the city and the country, and the ICANN expert can share knowledge regard ICANN and its many constituencies 2. Knowledge exchange - to be done in a formal, or perhaps informal setting - one that would allow for sharing knowledge on ICANN as well as frank discussion and sharing of views 3. Social Networking - Nothing like a local to help explain the city, its culture, and things to do. The city is huge and potentially dangerous, but with a local friend / a trusted buddy - one can visit the city safely and develop a connection with the local user community We too often meet without engaging local internet users, and well - want to do something about it. I would be able to commit funding to make it happen. let me know if it would be of interest to at-large. regards Robert -- R. I would be interested in meeting with Egyptian Internet users. It would be a shame to miss another opportunity to hear different viewpoints on how the Internet is and could be used. We should try to bring some local users into the discussion. Thanks, --Wendy Robert Guerra wrote:
