Re: [At-Large] [technical-issues] Verisign files a patent on domain transfers
Dear Sanford, I hate to break it to you but having just searched the US Patents and Trademark Office, it is a legitimate Application and is not a prank. Dear All,
So much for an open and free internet? This is a well thought out, deliberate and calculated move designed to limit control over the DNS and in the event that there was to be balkanisation, they would attempt to derive revenue from patents pending. The global community if they are in their right mind should file immediate Objections!
Unless this is a part of a general US strategy to retain control over the Internet for all eternity.
Kind Regards, Sala

As a registrar I raised this issue with Dr Crocker a couple of years ago and it was pretty clear to me at the time that the entire transfer thing hadn't really been thought about. However transfers are pretty "key" to domains.. People do it all the time - be that a simple change of nameservers, hosting provider or registrar..> To think that someone would actually slap a patent on something like this is truly depressing (ok, maybe I need more coffee).

Yes, it's real. Changing the subject a bit, is anyone other than me bothered by the facts that: 1. Cookies must be enabled; 2. Yes it is a bother. Hervey Allen pointed me to using Collusion and Do not track etc and I have been hooked since. Acombination of Collusion for Chrome to visualize who and how I'm being tracked: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/collusion-for-chrome/ganlifbpkcpln... And, DoNotTrackPlus to block sites from tracking me, but still allow me in: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/do-not-track-plus/epanfjkfahimkgom...
