Re: [At-Large] I'm inviting you into the "At-Large GNSO Liaison" workspace
Why are we creating a new workspace here, rather than using space within the overall ALAC wiki? I don't think this fragmentation helps us or our public keep track of activities. Thanks, --Wendy Nick Ashton-Hart wrote:

We are working under a new work flow plan, to better meet the outcomes we agreed to as priority in our LA meeting(s) and specifically as discussed proposed by Vanda in an earlier email to the Internal list, it is a mechanism to enhance the ALAC being better outcome driven and having a tracking for deadlines record, it is integrated into the ALAC Wiki and it should be viewed ad *focus* not fragmentation... As this process only started at 1340 UTC 30th of November they will emerge over the next few hours / days, and all spaces are to be integrated (linked to) the existing ALAC Wiki with a new parent page for easy navigation to each... people can elect for email notifications to any changes on any page, have it listed in their watch space in their entry page and if a WG wishes to alter these general practices to make it open to all for edit and mark up that is up to them... Thanks, I look forward to seeing URLs for each of the new spaces announced to the public list as they're created. I remain unconvinced that we need more spaces, rather than more effective use of existing spaces, but look forward to seeing the ALAC produce policy and impact statements. --Wendy Cheryl Langdon-Orr wrote:

No, this process started in December 2002. ALAC has had far more time than it needed to put in place a concise yet flexible set of communications channels, which is critical considering its intended objectives. As the product of this five years of skilled minds, hard work and lots of money spent we have a hodgepodge of attempts to alternately diversify and consolidate. Let's see, at just a cursory glance of websites, we presently have http://www.icann.org/committees/alac/ http://icannalac.org (which still shows a NEWSFLASH! dated Dec 2006) http://alac.icann.org/ https://st.icann.org/alac/index.cgi http://icannwiki.org/ALAC (And that's not even counting the fact that when an ad-hoc At-Large group started work on the Summit we needed to create a Google Group because early request for communications channels were either refused or unavailable.) Will the real ICANN website please stand up? What is most astounding is that ALAC (or, rather, the At-Large infrastructure) is supposed to be simplifying the public's path to understand ICANN. Isn't it reasonable to have expected that, after five years of prep, this mess would have been solved by now? I can only hope that the new initiatives will strive to clean up the above mess with some level of permanence. - Evan
Evan we have indeed under utalised the Wiki tool we have had and we are not discounting the work or effort that has gone into it, we are however making an ALAC wide commitment to better use the tool and this means some redesign, some training if required, and a unified approach to a redesign, which also runs parallel to the ALAC web redesign to take into account the new Membership and online applications for ALS's processes etc., The Wiki is a related part of this review and renew, but we certainly do expect it to be a main place for future WG activities... My response was to Wendy who was enquiring why there was suddenly new 'sectored into activity' invitations going out... That process was initiated at the date time stamp I stated, and it is after that point in time that the invitations to join these linked sub spaces of the Wiki will be going out... Sorry if my statement confused any one... But the intention is indeed to both minimise confusion *and* maximise ease of use, and best possible timely outcomes for the WG's and ALAC activities.
