a non-report on new gTLD
ICANN seems to be trying to "communicate" the new gTLD introduction, on their website. Not so felt by many or most of us in Japan. Most of us were not aware of the event, held with or after "ICANN Report meeting" within "Internet Week" event, collection of many meetings of mostly techy Internet engineers and Internet business people. Well, if you look at the ICANN website and see the pictures, one from Beijing, and another from Tokyo, you can tell the difference. I don't know how this was organized, but very few potential stakeholders, including end-users with AtLarge were contacted or invited. A pity indeed. izumi
Thank you for your note, Izumi. We made exactly the same remark to Kurt Pritz and his staff in Dakar, that local ALSes had not been contacted prior to a new gTLD road-show meeting taking place in a country, thus several of our ALSes missed out on being able to participate in the new gTLD meetings. The response that was given, was that the schedule of forthcoming meetings was open for all to see and could be found on: http://newgtlds.icann.org/program-status/upcoming-events Due to the ever changing and evolving nature of such meetings, with some of them being announced at short notice, we were told that this was the most efficient and reliable way of finding out where the gTLD road show was going. Also, if you are staging a new gTLD event in your part of the world, you may contact staff who will make sure that your event is reflected in the public calendar reference above. Hi, This does not see to be very Outreach-like to me. It this perhaps another ICANN meaning inversion (aka newspeakism) where outreach means, you are welcome to contact Us. At the very least they should send notice of any changes to the list of 'outreach' events, to the At-Large Worldwide list that I expect has members from most all ALSes as subscribers. Sad, really, avri On 14 Dec 2011, at 08:32, Olivier MJ Crepin-Leblond wrote:

Thanks for this, Izumi.
